Chicago took a really big hit with the Campbell injury. Their transition game is no where close to what it use to be. Preds in 6.

Big win for San Jose tonight. Nice to see Nabokov not doing his sieve impersonation tonight.

That was a must win for SJ and in spite of another stellar Anderson performance, they got the W. It's worth noting that Heatley, Thornton, and Marleau have combined for a grand total of 4 points in the entire series (or as many as Crosby had tonight alone). That's pathetic; especially since they have the benefit of playing on the same line most of the time. Almost every other star player has to do it with role players, or one other good player, but you're telling me none of these guys can even register a goal through 4 games? Anderson is damn good, but he's not that good. Nabokov did play well so that has to be encouraging considering his low save % the last several playoff series. It'll be interesting to see how game 5 unfolds, but the pressure rests on SJ still.

Corsi is a stat that measures even strength shots. It’s like plus/minus for shots instead of goals, and it’s a metric that shows controlling the flow of play. A high Corsi shows a team dominated possession. It’s a zero sum game, as the two team’s Corsi’s will total zero, so a positive Corsi is obviously good. A good game, you’re positive, a really good game you’re Corsi is between 5-10, and a dominant performance it’s double digits. Corsis are usually within 10. Just a frame of reference. (Actually individual Corsi numbers are far more valuable, just like individual +/-)

The Caps Corsi numbers?
Game 1: -1
Game 2: +35
Game 3: +11

The Caps absolutely dominated the last two games, particularly Game 2. Fenwick is a Corsi minus blocked shots, and the Caps were +2 in Game 1. The Caps have had more opportunities in every game of this series, though Game 1 was essentially even.

The Pens, for a point of comparison are also dominating, but not to the same extent:

Game 1: +1
Game 2: +24
Game 3: +2
Game 4: +1

I find it odd that the storyline is Ovie is choking and Crosby is dominant when both series look remarkably similar, with the favorite dropping game 1 and then turning on the jets for the rest pf the series. Crosby had 7 points before last night’s 4 point game, and Ovie is at 5 points through 3 games. Both teams are, in the flow of play, killing their opponent right now. We're headed for a collision it seems.

Baloo my point is not that Ovie is choking far from it...he's just floating...Crosby is making shite happen; controlling play creating chances and making his teamates better. A four point game in the playoffs is like an 8 point game in the regular season, checking is tighter, space and time are at a premium and the hits...Crosby wrecked Alfie...team captain vs. team Captain...I am not say Ovie is choking just...ordinary...

a 4 point game is far from floating, also Ovie's first of his career

Re: Ovie, he's made a big impact in 1 out of their 3 games. He no showed game 1, no way around that. I haven't said anything about him choking, but at this point, he hasn't even been the best player on his team (Backstrom clearly takes that honor). He's clearly picked it up after game 1 and I'm sure he'll be an impactful player from here on out.

On the other hand, Crosby has simply taken the series over. In the loss to open the series, he had 3 points. 11 points in 4 games is pretty remarkable considering the def. pair that Ottawa has and how much attention he receives on his line. The other thing is that it's not just the points; he's been playing serious defense and is winning faceoffs at an insanely high rate. At this point, there's no other player doing as much for his team as Crosby. And that doesn't need to be taken as some kind of sleight against anyone.

A +35 Corsi followed by a +11 is making TONS happen. He certainly had a poor Game 1, but his individual Corsi by game: +7, +14, +1. He's +22 on the series, which is downright awesome. Crosby has been -3, +15, +7, +7. Which is also awesome (+26). On a night where the team was underwater, Crosby was still +7.

These guys are having pretty similar series, though Crosby's recent Game 4 definitely puts him ahead, but their storyline is completely opposite. The story was Ovie the choker (or floater if you want) and Crosby making it happen even before Crosby's huge Game 4.

Shaping up to be Philly-Wash and Boston-Pitt, but I don't think Buffalo is out of it yet. Savard coming back for the Bruins could be a huge boost.

And Baloo, how about those Blackhawks? Campbell being out has disrupted their transition game so much. But, you have been right about Luongo so far.
