I still think Biron is only decent, but not playoff caliber. I really hope we can pick up a GOOD goalie in the offseason. Maybe we can deal with the ducks to get Giguere.

Flames are outshooting the Hawks 3-1 and are down 3-0. Kipper let in 3 goals on the first 9 shots. His GAA over the past two games is over 5.00. What the hell happened to him? The announcers keep making excuses for him, and none of the goals were bad per se, but he hasn't made any good saves. You don't credit for merely stopping all the easy shots.
This game is miserable. Outplay the Hawks and still get blown out. At home. Some comments as a diehard Flames fan...
-- It's the mark of the sophisticated Flaems fan to critique Phaneuf as overrated. Well, this is a different team without him. He's the best hitter on the team and one of the best point men on the PP in the NHL. If anything, given the way fans have turned on him, Phaneuf is UNDERrated.
-- That said, we really miss Regehr. And Gio. What allows Phaneuf to freelance is those stay at home defensemen.
-- Bertuzzi sucks. He's a turnover machine. He has one move (the backhand), and its not that good of a move. He can't finish. He takes awful penalties. He's miserable on the backcheck. Yet Keenan plays him on the first line.
-- Iginla is now officially on the decline. He's not bad, but he's not the player he once was.
-- OK, the whole team is hurt, but the top lines have been a disappointment.
-- Nystrom, Boyd, and Borque. Say what you will, but those guys have played above their heads. They need to be brought back. And Peters.
-- Sarich is a tough SOB.
-- Keenan needs to be fired. I hate him, even before he was hired, but he's just such a divisive guy and his "fiery" personality hasn't made anyone better, he's just alienated everyone but Aucoin and Bertuzzi, who get tons of minutes despite playing really crappy hockey. Every player has gotten worse.
-- I can't wait for this game to be over. This has been beyond depressing.

Well damn, sorry Baloo. Your Flames probably move on if they are healthy on D. Damn it looks like most of the main posters in this thread have seen their teams eliminated. I hope I'm not next.

The injuries have been released... AND PHANEUF HAS HAD BROKEN RIBS SINCE FEBRUARY. frick you, Mike Keenan. Why on earth was Phaneuf not only playing, but leading the NHL in ice time? Way to waste one of the league's best defencemen. Rest him for the playoffs... He should be fired on the spot.
What ticks me off is the Flames would have beaten anyone else other than the Hawks in the first round. A terrible draw, lots of injuries, and Mike Keenan's "leadership" and bizarre decision to treat Todd Bertuzzi as an elite player cost us any chance of advancing. I'm so pissed right now.
Oh, and when did Kipper start to suck? Can I blame that on Keenan as well?
