Anything other then clay. 2005-2007 Federer is the best there is.

But yeah, Federer's clearly not what he used to be from a mental standpoint. Part of it is probably motivation issues, and part is probably not having the same physical talent to rely on. I don't think it can be fully attributed to an increase in level of competition. Tsonga, Soderling, and Berdych have beaten him in slams recently.

Anybody watching Fish/Nadal? Has Mardy's serve gone to shite? He had probably been serving better than anyone else left and has been broken 3 times already

With the way everyone is playing now, yea I’d probably agree.

In recent history though it’d be nice to see four years-ago Fed against this year’s Australian Open Djokovic or last year’s US Open Nadal on hard courts. I know he’s won more Wimbledons but I still maintain Federer was more dominant on hard courts than anything when at his peak.

And Rafa doesn’t seem like he’s regained grass form from the epic performance we saw four years ago against Fed so I’d probably take four years-ago Fed over current Rafa on grass but it'd be close.

Yea, but I definitely think part of it is not just the mental aspect for him but also his competition. Once someone topples the beast, it changes the game for everyone. We’ve seen it as well with Tiger (although he’s also had a myriad of additional factors plus injuries to explain his decline).

Haven't been watching the Fish match but I gotta think his serve is leaving him.

Fish looks like utter shite out there FWIW.

An I'd take Fed -4yrs over Rafa any day of the week unless we're talking clay.

I just woke up to an espn text that said Fed blew a 2 set lead. Did he just fall apart?

No...he just Tsonga-fied. He played good, but just couldn't close it out and let Tsonga hang around.

I think US Open Rafa from last year would push it to four sets and would be a helluva match before Fed won and we all know what happened when they played at Wimbledon four years ago…

Rafa was great at the USO last year. I wonder if he'll be able to hit that level on a hard court again.

This has been a bizarre Wimbledon to say the least. Not complaining though, I love upsets. Just got another interesting stat from the ESPN text: Fed was 178-0 after winning the first two sets before today.

Yea it’ll be interesting. I hope he gets back to that level and Djokovic gets back to his early season form. That would be a helluva final if both made it and played at their peaks.

If you're talking about 2008 then yeah, but I'm refering more to 2005-2007 when Fed was almost untouchable.

IMO Those guys know they have to go for broke in order to beat him in a major, unfortunately for him they just played out of their mind.

Not much he can do when a guy is constantly swinging for the fences and everything drops.

I'm really hoping Maria wins, but if Sabine won...then I wouldn't mind that either.
