My last comment about the dustin johnson deal ... Although I agree with the ruling the PGA should have damn well told the marshalls about what is a bunker and what is not and that should have been told to the player..

I know the USGA would have done that ..

That is my only beef about the way it was handled.

Hate to see it happen but Bottom line it is still on the player..

And he just said on the interview on the Golf Channel that he didn't even look at the local rules sheet put in his locker.

What bout the caddie... I think he is more to blame... That is what they get paid for on these incidents alone. Before handing him the club, I say this might be a bunker don't ground your club or call a rules official over to confirm...

What's typical? That the player screwed up and the PGA only enforced the rules?

Well for starters they have this Napoleons Syndrome with the USGA and R&A. So they want to make the course tough and decide go against all conventional golfing wisdom and deem that every area of sand on the course is going to be treated as a hazard. Thus, allowing 40,000+ people to change the dynamic of a hazard over a four day period.

This is like allowing the gallery at Sawgrass to scoop out the water around 17.

I unserstand this but I am just telling you that the USGA would have had the marshalls inform the player of the situation.

Hell I've marshaled AJGA tournaments and we were told to inform the players of the "local rules" on the holes which we were stationed.

Correct. That is my only beef with the way this was handled. For all we know the PGA may have told the marshalls to do this and the guy just got caught up in the event and forgot to do his job. Who knows.

The only thing that is certain is that the responsibility to know the rules ultimately falls on the the players.

You fault the PGA. I fault the player. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

No. Its on DJ.

I'm more pissed at the PGA for its inability to manage a tournament.
