Terrible call. Ballcarrier was under complete control of the tackler who stopped forward progress at the 2 or 3, and drove him back into the endzone. Had the ballcarrier run into the endzone under his own power and free will, then tackled in the endzone, then it would have been a safety. The whistle was late, but that does not justify the "safety" call, it only adds another layer of fail to the fustercluck of officiating on that play.

Two college officials told me today that the call was correct. His forward progress was no stopped or else he would not have broken the tackle and inched forward. Clear safety according to the rules.
