Oakland was a shitty place for him to end up, certainly. Of course it was(is?) the worst place for anyone to play.

But if you look at the Top 10, he would have had to step in and perform immediately almost anywhere.

Oakland
Detroit
Cleveland
Tampa
Arizona
Washington
Minnesota
Atlanta
Miami
Houston

He could have sat behind Schaub in Houston, Warner in Arizona, and probably Campbell in Washington.... but the rest of those places he would have been expected to perform immediately (Joey Harrington, Cleo Lemon ) and he wasn't prepared to do that anywhere, quite obviously.

IF he has a desire to play in the NFL, he needs to go somewhere to be a backup for a couple of years behind someone with a work ethic that won't allow him to slip. With his head on straight, New Orleans is the really the best place for him.

Um, I'm pretty sure most knowledgeable LSU fans knew he would struggle in the NFL, and most fans I know said he would be the biggest bust ever. And this included LSU fans who absolutely loved JR while at LSU. So go ahead and pat yourself on the back for being "one of the few" who thought he would be a bust.

The Florida game, though, Russell was terrible (4 turnovers, rating under 100)

to be fair, everyone sucked in that game

and also, the fumble was on the center (never got to JR), and 2 of the 3 picks hit WRs in the hands

but once that hester TD was called back, then the center fricked up the smap, our team just lost it. laron got fricking owned in coverage. we fumbled the kickoff in the 2nd half. etc etc

you just can't shite the bed against the best D in CFB and the #1 team at their home and expect to win

Is this the game where Xavier Carter kneeled at the 1?

whoa

his entire mentality changed in the NFL compared to LSU, brotha. he had a high bust factor, but there was no reason to think he'd fail. he was a stunning NFL QB prospect

tall, mobile, quick release, accurate, once a generation arm, great decision making, good QB coaching, great career, etc etc

if you look at him objectively as a prospect, and remove the name/fandom, he's simply stunning

Doucet fumbling the second half kickoff still pisses me off.

Don't forget the phantom holding call one play before where Buster Davis scores and the flag comes out while he is standing up with his arms in the air. Herman Johnson was called for the "penalty" that clearly wasn't.

Like the Auburn game earlier in the year, I strongly believe LSU was not going to win that game that day either. No way they were going to allow us a two score lead, and that penalty proved it. LSU had to score 3 TDs on one possesion. They scored 2, but fumbled before they could get the third. What a disgrace.

D. Bowe both times.

yeah the first was inexcusable on bowe's part

the 2nd was a tough pass (in a tough situation) that still hit him in the hands (for a TD no less)

if bowe catches that TD, i think we win the game

Wasn't he about to get sandwiched on that first one? I remember him being between two guys and batting the ball twice.

I sometimes forget how good he was at LSU

LINK

In particular the 2:40 and 3:05 mark... he throws the ball so effortlessly

Was it Doucet or Hawkins? I thought we still inexplicably had one of our CBs returning kicks that never looked comfortable doing it at that point of the season?
