I think he knew it was a HR the whole time, but it wasn't his call. This is just more evidence that instant replay needs to be expanded though. That rookie umpire who messed that up initially could have messed up a non-reviewable play just as easily. Great win though. The Padres need to beat the Phillies now.

If they hadn't had replay they would have just met to discuss it and called it homer. Not that I have an issue with instant replay - just it wouldn't have made a difference here.

and the main reason I think this team takes the division. The Pads sure shite the bed in their series though. I thought it was gonna be a definate series win for them with the Phils traveling across the country on no days rest
