Don’t watch a ton of tennis but I’ve watched most of the matches over the last few weeks. Someone explain the Rafa love vs Novak hate please? Both are obviously awesome and fun to watch based on their play but between Nadal’s OCD crap, grunting, trashy tank tops, etc I find Novak much more likable and easier to watch. What is the deal?

it honestly feels like Novak is about to go on another absolutely monster grand slam/masters run here

maybe he gets close to Roger's 20?

so far he's got all the masters 1000s series, all the grand slams, davis cup title.

only thing missing on his resume is an Olympic Gold medal I believe.

and he has a winning record against both Nadal and Federer.

if he gets close to 20, how deep into GOAT conversation do we enter for Novak? or is that nonsense bc nobody surpasses roger?

If he wins tomorrow, he ties Pete at 14 majors and is probably higher in the conversation due to winning all four and competing against Roger and Rafa. There was some stat a few years ago about how nobody wins more than three majors after 29 or something, and these guys are blowing by that.

Fed is probably done winning majors, although I think he can be competitive at Wimbledon for two years. Novak will be a huge favorite for Australia. Next Australia and Roland Garros will be critical to all of this. If Novak wins both, he is likely catching Rafa and going to have a run at Roger. If Rafa keeps RG, I don't think Novak catches him. One more for Fed would put him out of reach, I think. These guys have to fall off at some point in the next couple of years, though. It would be good for the sport if Zverev and Thiem could start winning.

My guess it’s that there’s two main reasons for it.
1. Djokovic was the last of the Fed/Rafa/Djoker group to come come up, most tennis fans had already picked Fed or Rafa as their favorite player and that wasn’t going to change, then this new guy comes in and crashes the party.
2. When he first came onto the scene he wasn’t a very likeable guy. His attitude on and off the court wasn’t great, things like the on court interview after he beat Roddick in the US Open pissed a lot of people off for example. He’s definitely gotten better as he’s gotten older but people already had their minds made up about him.

It felt like that first set lasted about 15 minutes. Serena better get it together because this match is moving very fast

Serena needs to let that coaching warning go. It's obvious he was telling her to come forward. No big deal.

Osaka looks like she's going to be the next great women's tennis player. I'm really impressed watching her play. Her strokes are so powerful and precise.

Osaka is outserving and out hitting Serena on the forehand. Pretty damn impressive
