Pride had some great fighters and all of their big events were packed. Why did they have finacial problems? Also, Oscar just made 21 million in a boxing match he lost recently. So how much did Randy Couture make in his recent big lost?

I like it just fine. One belt fight a month is perfect. I just wish UFC would sign all the big-names so I can follow it better.

250,000 up front
if he won another 200,000

plus whatever he makes off of sponsorships and ppv buys. id say he may get half a million total for this fight.

MMA is the dumbest shite that anyone's ever tried to classify as a sport.

Based on Couture’s pay-per-view bonuses, which were revealed in a 2007 press conference after Couture quit UFC, and the numbers released, Couture would get a total of $2.61 million for the fight, more than double his prior biggest career earnings for any fight, of which $2.36 million came from the back end. Lesnar’s take is unknown due to his percentage not being released, other than he received $450,000 before any bonuses kicked in.

Couture got a good paycheck for the Lesner fight.

i love watching it but it does get confusing with all the weight classes and champions from the different leagues

i prefered the original tourny style with all weight classes competing against each other, i thought it was more entertaining

That would never work today. Back then it wasn't MMA really - it was let's see which individual discipline is the best (i.e. BJJ, karate, boxing, etc). When those early competitors started cross training in different disciplines and competing, MMA was born. Back then a 170 lbs Royce Gracie could beat a 280 lbs boxer because Royce was a master of BJJ and once he would get the guy on the ground it was game over. Now everyone trains BJJ in MMA, so you have to fight guys in your weight class for the most part.

There is only two channels that run MMA on a consistent basis. And 90% of what you see is reruns.

Spike TV is a major network, but it's not CBS, ESPN, etc...

The other is Versus, which a bunch of people don't have or even know about.

Pride was bought well over a year ago by the UFC and is now defunct.
IFL is done and hasn't been on tv in quite some time.
Elite XC did 3 shows on CBS and is now finished, along with Kimbo.

So it boils down to one station has MMA on 25% of the time. So is that what you call too much MMA?

I love guys like you who don't really follow the sport then start threads about it.

Not enough, imo. Too much basketball, though.

Ok, for one..you just said you love guys..

two: I never said I was an avid watcher of this sport.

The over saturation is what I was talking about..once again, you still have/had King of the Cage, the IFL, Pride, UFC, elite xc, the program that Norris created and on top of that add all the dojos that have been springing up in the past couple years..

Now, don't get me wrong I enjoy watching these..but it seems that it is becoming too popular too fast..I enjoyed watching it back in the mid 90s when you knew about how badass this fighter was and you had to pay to see them on pay-per-view. (ex: severen, gracie, etc)

What is the difference now, other then the fighters are 100 times more skilled, the rules are better, and the sport is much more popular? (I would like to see the "soccer kicks" rule taken out of UFC though.
