#4
Of most historic, does that = recognizable?

Paying attention, no. At least aware, yes.
Besides, the question isn't how many people would recognize a stadium, it's which are the most recognizable?
I'd bet Superdome is #1 among the American general public.
University of Phoenix stadium (little education for you) is probably pretty high on the list too just because it's extremely unique.
I'm not saying that most people would recognize them, but more so than the average NFL or MLB stadium.

James Bond fans would recognize the Dome from "Live and Let Die"

This thread is decidedly not about that.

I doubt many people drive in from the airport and say, "Isn't that the stadium from Birds/James Bond?"
Its easier for people who know the stadium well to recognize it in those movies.
Whatever, y'all are right. Easily the most recognizable in America and its not even close.

The poster who made the OP is the one who said not to look at it from a sports fan's point of view...

Show them this:
And tell them it is the Superdome.

Doesn't mean you need Katrina, or non sports events, to sell it. One event, even Katrina, wouldn't be enough to stick it in someone's mind.
Or

No, I said general public not just sports fans. Sure most sports fans are aware of a lot of stadiums, but which ones transcends sports into the minds of the general populace

This is so dumb, 75 percent of the people on this board are from Louisiana of course the superdome is going to be the most recognizable american stadium in their eyes. Unfortunately for them it looks like a dome, and nothing else. Cowboys stadium on the other hand is much more recognizable.
Well I just showed 9 people a picture of it, none of whom are from New Orleans, and 8 of them immediately knew what it was

if you haven't been to a stadium, I bet many do not know what certain stadiums or domes look like from the outside. inside many are unique for baseball, not so much football.
with that I'd say the most recognizable stadium would have been Yankee stadium, til it was replaced.
To me, it is golf courses which are uniquely recognizable, not a stadium which must meet the sports' set dimensions.

hard to miss when they show the city/skyline/etc. 1 million times
then you have to account for the hundreds of popular movies it has been in

That's the point.... If you showed pictures of stadiums with no name or location, most people in the general population (including sports fans) would not know what's the name. The Superdome would be easily recognizable to the majority of people based on uniqueness and history.

You're wrong about that one.

Completely and totally different. I could put tower 6 in a lineup and you wouldn't pick it off. The architecture of the twin towers on fire in that skyline is the image burned into memories. The image of the dome with the roof off makes everyone think Katrina, not Superdome.

So you got the reference of the two stadiums I posted. The second one is a real stretch, but the first is a decent comparison.

I recognize Candlestick Park. 1966 is a long damn time ago if that's what you're referring to.
I was 20 years from being born.
