Mike Brown is pretty horrible but I agree with him 100% on this.

Stay out of trouble, get paid.

Like wearing a Trump hat to an interview?

With this clause in the contract Bosa could have been cut for just that in San Fran

Sure. Don’t get political if your employer doesn’t want that.

It wasn’t in his contract though.

If this is what the league is moving towards, then that’s what it’s moving towards. It happens in business on a daily basis.

You can argue that the owners have been asinine up until now not making it a part of contracts. Looks like they are trying to fix that.

It’s smart to just guarantee money to someone with no provisions about not doing dumb shite?

Buddy, no agent on earth is ever letting their client sign this:

Nope, don’t twist it. Not “doing stupid shite”, specifically making critical comments about the organization. Make that argument.

By the way, apparently the bengals have been doing this for 25 years:

quote:

In the agent community, the stipulation is known as the "Pickens Clause," nicknamed for former Cincinnati wide receiver Carl Pickens, who public lambasting of the franchise was a source of consternation to owner Mike Brown and other team officials. The team began to include the clause in rookie contracts in 2000 and, in several instances, it was a major sticking point in negotiations and led to a few lengthy holdouts.

What a sensitive crybaby failson Mike Brown is

Damn that means that many agents let their clients sign that.

Apparently they have been doing that since 2000 which is wild. I have never heard of anything like that and can't believe any agent of a 1st or 2nd round pick, or major FA let them sign that clause

I believe that fully guaranteed contracts are out of control, especially if they are more than two years.

I also believe that the language “conduct detrimental to football” is too vague and could easily be used by the team inappropriately. However, when that language is used ONLY in describing the “guaranteed” part of the contract, I’m more likely to ultimately agree with its inclusion.

The first round slotting alleviated most of the holdouts, but prior to 2012, they had a crazy history of hold outs:

2001 Justin Smith- missed all of camp, signed Saturday before week 1
2002 Levi Jones- signed 1 day before camp
2003 Carson Palmer- signed before draft
2004 Chris Perry- 11 day holdout
2005 David Pollack- 17 day holdout
2006 Jonathan Joseph- signed day 1 of camp
2007 Leon Hall- 1 day holdout
2008 Keith Rivers- 10 day holdout
2009 Andre Smith- 30 day holdout
2010 Jermaine Gresham- 10 day holdout

Impossible to know how many go the clause waived. Clearly Mike Brown is running a steady ship up there
