OU was number one in the pre-bowl ranking system LSU, OU and usc agreed to before the season started.

USC was #1 in the post-bowl ranking system that crowned the champions for about 70 years in CFB.

So now you're talking up 2003 OU?

This thread sucks.

USC and Pete Carroll were champs on the field in 2003 and 2004.

Officially in National Championship games USC is 0-1 all time
In actuality they are 1-1.

0-1

USCs appearance in the 04-05 title game vs OU was vacated because USC was caught cheating and blatantly disregarding ncaa rules

4 of the NCAA's "Blue Blood" programs haven't been acting like blue bloods in quite a while.

Michigan - From the time of their last title in 48' (1948-2019) Michigan has 1 Title (97') in 71 years.

Notre Dame - From the time of their last title in 77' (1977-2019) Notre Dame has 1 Title (88') in 42 years.

USC - From the time of their last title in 78' (1978-2019) USC has 0 titles in 41 years.

Texas - From the time of their last title in 70' (1970-2019) Texas has 1 title (05') in 49 years.

Georgia Tech beats all that and it would be even clearer without the fifth down bullshite

USC has won the same number of playoff titles as LSU

Zero

Making them both completely irrelevant in modern college football

Since you clearly want to talk about the 2003 season this is what the actual BCS reported. A split national championship
quote:

2003 For the only time since the BCS was formed, there is a split national champion. LSU finishes atop the coaches' poll by beating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl in a pairing of the top two teams in the BCS Standings. USC, ranked first in both polls on Bowl Selection Sunday, is left out of the BCS championship game when the Trojans finish third in the BCS standings. But USC wins the Associated Press' championship after beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Oklahoma, which spent the season as the top-ranked team in both polls, earns a spot in the Sugar Bowl by finishing first in the final BCS Standings even though the Sooners lose to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game. LSU, the SEC champion, edges USC for second place in the final BCS Standings to advance to the Sugar Bowl.

It’s almost as if you are playing the game to let me win.

You resorted to a web archive of the bcs website? Have faith young one. I too, 15 years ago, was troubled by the words on that website. So I contacted the committee chairman at the bcs. This was around 2005. And talked to him about the wording on the website. He read it himself and was obviously perturbed. No more than an hour later was it removed.

Turns out an intern, from Los Angeles, no less, had posted that on the bcs site.

Thanks for allowing me to share another great memory about the BCS, the lone college authorized and legitimate purveyor of the ncaa national championship in 2003.
