John Phan got eliminated 30 minutes into the tournament when he lost 3/4s of his stack with a rivered set of queens vs a guy who called with a gutshot on the flop and hit on the turn. Then he lost the rest when he got it in on a 9 high flop with AA vs K9 when a K fell on the river.

that's about as bad a beat someone can take. that's sick.

btw, how many times does this happen?

quote:

Straight Flush No Good for Danzer

We caught this hand as the chips were being counted on the river. Patrik Danzer held 8h-9h on a board of 5s-7h-Ah-10h-Jh. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't good enough to win as his opponent, Christian Jeppsson held Kh-Qh for the royal. Danzer still has his starting stack of 30,000 while Jeppsson has 50,000.

What a Way to End the Evening

Two players got all in before the flop. Let's call them "Happy Man" and "Not-So-Happy Man." Not-So-Happy had Happy covered. Happy Man 9h-9c, Not-So-Happy Man Ks-Kd The flop came down a positively grotesque Kc-10c-9s, both players flopping sets. The turn was the 3c and the river fell the Qc ... Happy Man thusly earning his new moniker as his 9c played to make him a flush and earn him a double-up back to his 30,000 starting stack just as Day 1A came to an end.

edit: I think i've come to the conclusion that i'm better at Omaha than hold'em.

Here is a sick beat:

I have about $400 playing $1-2 NL at a casino. I get KK in small blind, raise to $20, guy in mid position calls. Flop K-4-5, I bet $45, guy raises to $120, I push all in, he calls. I have set K over set 4. Turn 6, river a fricking 4. Just disgusting.

Chino won't be making another run.

Chino Eliminated

David "Chino" Rheem was eliminated a short while ago when he ran into a full house from Jean-Robert Bellande. According to Bellande, he turned a set of queens and then rivered the boat.
