it's like they decided to do that but didn't think one bit of what it might cause.

if they made everyone register for the tournament before Day 1A then they could have equal fields in all day 1s.... it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out ways to fix this problem. Although Jack Effel probably can't figure it out.

why'd they increase starting stack?
simple answer, more chips at the FT or leading up is sexier to viewers.
As a player I wouldn't mind it depending on what they did with their structure but from playing in both 10 k starting chip Mains and 20k starting chip mains, I don't see the need for 30 even for the better players.

You also have people doing this:

Some Folks Really Want to Get to Day 2 The following curiosity just took place with about half an hour left in the last level of the night. A player under the gun limped, then the player in the cutoff raised to 4,050. It folded to the player in the big blind who reraised to 12,000, leaving himself 29,000. The UTG player folded, then the player in the cutoff reraised all in for his stack of 45,000. The player in the big blind considered a bit, then folded his KK face up.

problem though is they make a shite load of money at the Rio in those 3 days before day 1 D in satelites. They run megas and some single tables before the ME starts but not anywhere near as many as they do when the only tournament left is the ME.

Not uncommon at the ME. The players are shite to begin with but they get wierd around the end of days and especially close to the bubble. I was talking to a buddy of mine who has finished in the top 150 in the last two ME's and he said he had a huge chip stack last year going into the money bubble and had a guy on the button raise from the button then get re raised by him from the BB and he open mucked KK.

How about this beat earlier today:
quote:
"All in and a call!" yelled the dealer over at table 240 in the Brasilia room. Mark Landgraf was all in holding Ac Qd against Alexander Yaroshetskiy's Ah Jh.
With a dominating position in the hand, Landgraf improved to trip queens on the flop of Kh Qh Qs. Yaroshetskiy did pick up a royal flush draw though.
The turn hit the Qc, giving Landgraf quads and leaving Yaroshetskiy drawing to only one out. The poker gods must have been looking down on Yaroshetskiy today because the 10h landed on the river giving him the royal flush! The table erupted and one player even fell back out of his chair as he was leaning back in it.
Yaroshetskiy is now up to 240,000 and Landgraf dropped all the way to 14,300.

that shite happens more at the WSOP than anywhere else for whatever reason.
I lost 64,000 chips on day 1 a few years ago with a J1010 flop holding J10 to pocket jacks. been playing in cash games 3-4 times a week for almost 6 years and I could count the times on 1 hand i'd been coolered that bad. yet it happens at the WSOP ME.

Mike Matusow might be the most patient player I've ever watched
I wouldn't ever count him out though. A couple of double ups...
quote:
Matusow Just Can't Catch a Break
Since it seems likely that we may not have the privilege of Mike "the Mouth" Matusow's table talk much longer, we stationed a reporter at his table to see what the talkative Matusow might have to say after dinner.
"14 hours of play and I've won two pots at showdown," Matusow complained to Greg "FBT" Mueller. "And one of 'em was a limped pot that I won with three-four. Now that's impressive."
Mueller laughed.
"I'm serious," continued Matusow. "Two people limped. I was in the big blind and it checked the whole way down. The board was 7-10-J-3-5 and I won with three-four."
Nobody else at Matusow's table is shedding many tears that his stack contains only 10,600 remaining chips.
I wouldn't ever count him out though. A couple of double ups...
