I hope not... I would prefer to roll into season with that they have rather than commit 10+ million a year to one of the remaining FA pitchers

Yeah, Garza is supposedly looking for 60-65 over 4. Not worth it IMO. He's pretty average.

Current Yankee management reminds me of the Steinbrenner days circa 1984-1992

Current management looks clueless imo...
One side of their mouth they want to save money
Other side they are spending money

Looks like a ship without a captain, I have no idea what kind of team they are trying to construct

I'm not a Yanks fan but looks like a total shitshow

Agree with that. Someone will pay him though.

They are good enough for a WC but they are old and farm system sucks.... I would have preferred a full rebuild mode and with the Yankees resources they could be back as a AL East contender in 2-3 years.

Yankees get crap for spending but when they were winning the core was all home grown or players signed for modest/fair value contracts (Scott Brosius, Paul O'Neil, Tino Martinez)

Why is Elsbury not needed? I think both he and Gardner bring similar tools but what is wrong with that? This isn't basketball where you don't want two point guards.

Because they have a cheaper version in Gardner, that contract of 7 years 153 million was horrible.
Gardner actually has a higher career OBP while Ellsbury has a higher avg/slugging. It isn't that the Yankees didn't need Ellsbury, it is more that contract they gave him.

I would have extended Gardner, and signed Choo and not signed Ellsbury.

Fair enough.I think they overpaid also but I liked him better than Choo(20 mil for a platoon?)I don't think the Yankees can rebuild. They have grown into this Monster that has to reload to keep people's attention.

Nah they could rebuild but it would means a couple years of sucking and eventually they will collapse as more teams start locking up their young talent. If the Yankees don't start to develop their own young talent they will fall behind like the Cowboys

I prefer him to Ellsbury.
I know his numbers dip against lefties, but still acceptable.
But I'm not a Yankee fan...just speaking generically.

Only reason is health as Ellsbury has issues playing more than 130+ games.....

But I would have taken Byrd at 2 years, 8 million apiece over Ellsbury, or a flier on Chris Coghlan, resign Granderson for 12 million a year even though he only has power, or just offer Ellsbury less and hope for the best

I must admit that, after spending some time on the poli board, I read the first word of the subject heading and instantly thought it would end up far more acrimonious.

Yankees: Why are they forcing man-to-man butt sex on the rest of us?

Yankees: Why are they denying thousands of years of fulfilled prophecies?

Yankees: Why don't they see that there stupid socialism is why their dying... MEANWHILE THE SOUTH RISES AGAIN!!!

Well, Ellsbury's here. Now, don't frick it up by dumping a known quantity who has shown he can get you wins.
