Rosie's mom is the worst. At least her dad was some kind of mafia associate

Dealing with the parent's grief is what sets the show apart from even good police procedurals. Furthermore, at least it isn't mind-numbingly dull like the political side of the show. It may pay off at some point in the show's future but those scenes still don't work for me.

The guy that works with the dad is starting to look real suspect to me.

This pretty much makes her a great actress then. I wonder how you would act irl if your daughter was found in the trunk of a car in some ditch in the woods? Probably pretty zombie like at first I'd think.

yeah at first, but I probably wouldn't lay in her room for hours on end and yell at her little brother while he's taking a bath. I can understand she's going thru a hard time and actually seeing the pictures of her murdered daughter at the police station would be extremely difficult. I just think she shouldn't get as much air time as she's receiving.

You have no idea what you'd do in that situation. Imo, this actress is nailing it. Not only is she dealing with the murder of her daughter but she's also feeling the guilt of not talking to her the entire weekend. That would be a lot for anyone, even you anonymous message board poster, to handle.

How much time the show spends on any one character will depend on how the plot lines resolve themselves. Also, police procedurals spend so little time on the families of the victims, I find their portrayal in the Killing to be the best part of the show. Without the family, I am pretty sure the show would not be keeping my interest.

Agreed. Each episode is pretty much a day right? How can someone gripe about the mom being so sad/out of it when they haven't even had the funeral? I'm pretty sure the mom and dad should get the benefit of the doubt

This isn't like 24...each episode is not a day. Fine if you want to give the dad the benefit of the doubt. Because, his character is actually interest and isn't so boring to watch. The mother on the other hand doesn't keep my interest when she's on camera.

Not to mention, i'd go so far to particularly blame some of emily's disappearance on her. Who goes three days without speaking to their 17 or 18 year old daughter?

Does anyone think Rosie caught her mom having an affair? When I saw the movie she made, that was the first thought that popped in my head. Could explain why they didn't speak to each other that weekend.

Not sure about that but I thought that Sarah comments "Maybe she saw something she shouldn't have" might have some relevance.

Has anyone here explored Rosie's room yet?

I'm the opposite, the suspense is the best part. I hate spoilers.

Maybe every episode isn't a day, but not that much time has passed. They haven't even had the funeral yet.

I like that they include the family. Makes it more realistic to me. Like someone else said, I'm not so sure about the political part though.

And I'm not convinced the teacher did it. I don't think they would reveal it this early.

The top suspects (by the viewers) Are the teacher, Sarah's Finance and the dad's partner
