that OP is just casual smugness...it's so routine. Of course there had to be something about fat and stupid rest of America.

I go see movies, and it annoys me that this industry shows such contempt for their audience, sometimes in the movie itself.

and yes, there are other pockets of elitism, but I can kind of get it...congressmen have POWER, I get how you can be wrapped up in yourself. A lot of them are educated or may have done something important (for better or worse) Like it or not, they matter a great deal more (not that it justifies any kind of shitty behavior) and in some way I can understand it, even if it is shitty to see politicians with contempt for their constituents (I love VEEP, that's basically the whole show...how nasty, snarky, but comically incompetent Washington politicians are)

I think there is definitely a financial aspect to this sense of superiority in this group/clique (which includes studio execs, producers, directors, etc.)

but it's nothing I'm concerned with

1. There aren't many hillbillies, and yet there is this weird perception on the coasts that the rest of the United States is deliverance bumfrick, fat, stupid, and raaaaaacist (I'm saying this in a really racist voice out loud right now) when it's just untrue

2. Given that the OP discredits the film based on an irrelevant external factor (dealing with race), I'm pretty sure the implication that it is IMPOSSIBLE for racists to be members of the Academy is bullshite (said like penn jillette)

3. There are literally endless instances of Hollywood entertainers, executives, etc. showing how woefully disconnected they are (and not because of money, a lot of people with money are totally normal believe it or not) from everyone else. And the reason they say these really smug things, is because they don't know any better. Holy shite, I just realized, Hollywood has fricking aspergers.

I think some voters genuinely have a tough time ranking movies because they truly enjoyed and/or loved several of the nominees. She just utilizes a version of positive nitpicking. At the very least, she provided a explanation for her picks rather.

maybe this is just me, but I have never understood "awards"

if you're going to choose anything based on something other than being the best (and it is done with every kind of award on the planet)

then who fricking cares

ms. America is probably more legit than the NFL MVP voting, grammy awards, Oscars, etc.

sure they sugar coat it with talent and interviews, but it's really about which of them bitches is the finest (or which one will blow the right person)
