Saw the film weekend before last with the wife and daughter.
Was interested and intrigued beforehand, as I had read actual background info directly from Ron Stallworth (not the book, but interviews, news stories, etc.), so I knew a lot of what had really happened.
That being said, while I liked the movie to a certain point (it certainly was entertaining for a while) by the time it ended I was very disappointed, because it went SO far overboard with embellishments and propaganda.
The things that really happened (the undercover two-person Klan infiltration operation, the calls with David Duke, the photo with David Duke, some Klan members working at NORAD) were terribly overshadowed by the things that DIDN'T happen (partner being Jewish, the whole bomb plot resulting in an explosion and death of a Klansman, cops beating up Stallworth until his partner jumps in, and Stallworth trying to get with the college character Patrice).
Spike Lee has the Klan members watching the ridiculous over-the-top semi-propaganda-ish Birth of a Nation, but by that point that's what HE's doing; that's what HIS film has become. His narrative became just as over-the-top and ludicrous as the old silent movie actors in blackface.
In my mind, he took an entertaining and educational true story about an interesting case of working against racism and the Klan in America (that happened 40 years ago) and clearly turned it into a anti-Trump screed (Having racist characters usch as David Duke using the phrases, "America First", and "Make America Great Again"-- cute).
For those who might want to know how far the film ventured from reality, Screen Rant has a great article on it:

They’ll let it go at some point. In the interim, just go about your life and I promise it will all be just fine.

Oh yea, it isn't me you have to worry about. I'm not out there pulling down monuments or defending monuments. I just want the saints to win the Superbowl and money to magically appear in my bank account!

I get what you're saying but you do understand that Duke was saying that stuff. He still does say that stuff.

Didn't Dave Chappelle already do this?

This is what Denzel Washington's son said when he read the script. He had no idea about the story (neither did I). He mentioned this on a Bill Simmons' podcast.
