Burn Notice and Royal Pains on their best night are mediocre shows. Americans have become so accustomed to the garbage the networks and some cable stations provide they are willing to accept whatever they're given.
Royal Pains borders on mediocre to bad but you are completely wrong about Burn Notice. BN may not be your kind of show but it is a retro 80'sish action show, has Bruce Campbell in the cast, is shot on location in Miami, has tons of stunt work and driving, real explosions, has a good mix of procedural and serial elements, and enough emotional depth to provide some dramatic moments to the show's action sequences. It is better than most of the garbage on tv if not as good as something like The Wire or Breaking Bad.

Bruce Campbell
One of my favorite actors. My issue with Burn Notice, as with many TV shows, begins and ends with plausibility. And yes I know I'm being a bit nickpickish (if that's an actual word) but I can't get pass implausible plots.

What's your complaint with this show?

plausibility.
But you liked Lost?

I was thinking the exact thing! I do not understand why some posters come into a thread, knowing they do not watch the show, have nothing to contribute about the show, just to shite on people who do watch it!

Yes, because Lost was what it was. There was never an assumption of plausibility that other shows offer but never produce.

I think you may be a bit too sensitive.

Not really, just curious as why you are in this thread?

same as anyone else who contributed, to offer my opinion on the subject. I didn't call any poster out or refer to them in a disparaging manner. My beef is with what's being offered. Sorry if people took it the wrong way.

Why are you expecting a show with Bruce Campbell in the cast that is intentionally made to resemble an 80's action show to have an assumption of plausibility?

Have you ever watched the show?

Yes, during a BN marathon USA network offered a while back.

Because its not an intentional fantasy show. With anything other than fantasy there should be an expectation of plausibility IMO.

Unless a show intentionally tries of be a mirror of reality, you can't apply that standard for assessing the quality of a show. You shouldn't go throwing words like "garbage" around when that position is shaped by such a singular personal preference, imho.

I can if that's my singular personal opinion. I'm fine with the idea of others disagreeing with me.

Well of course I can. I can assess a show in any manner that suits me and then express my reason for finding it lacking. The cool thing is you don't have to share that opinion.

You can but you shouldn't. You saying BN is garbage is about as valid as me saying The Wire sucked because I don't like television shows with serial elements.

Why not? We're each offering up honest opinions. If I feel BN is garbage I'm in no way implying you're defective for enjoying the show. Your reasons for enjoying the show are as valid as mine for thinking it stinks. I don't understand the rationale for suppressing my opinion.

Because your opinion is derived from an asinine, unrealistic standard that all TV shows that are not fantasy need to strive for realism. You are free to feel this way but as this position of yours leads you to describe most television as garbage, you really don't have much useful to add to a conversation about the quality of most television shows.

Edit: Sorry for the criticism but you're not saying anything other than I can't express myself in a way I chose.
