My biggest problem with the show is believing that someone who looks like this could be a tough New York detective.

She's actually the reason I like it. Nathan Fillion is not that appealing to me. Seems like he plays the same character in every show.

Apparently they're okay again - it appears that the biggest issue (probably) was burn out.
Who said they were “good” again ?

An effective NYC detective? Yes.
As long as they dont have some supermodel engaging in hand to hand combat with men like a cage fighter I dont see the problem?

I'd engage in hand to hand combat with her

Half the times she takes some perp to the ground the guy ends up with a look on his face like “I can live with this…” haha.

This is a decent police procedural but IMO it's mainly due to the cast. Much like w/Bones you can usually tell who the killer is in the first 5 minutes b/c 9/10 times they are an actor you've seen many times before rather than some newbie getting their first gig.
If you watch a bunch of them in a row it's pretty easy to see how each episode follows the exact same beats.
Person killed
Castle gets excited, makes quips, and creates over the top scenario b/c "I'm a writer"
Initial obvious suspect alibis out, Castle is shocked.
Famous guest star laments victims death, asks who could do this, and points fingers as they offer their alibi.
Castle comes up w/even more outlandish scenario as Beckett glares at her murder board.
Castle checks in at home where his mom talks about acting/dating while his perfect daughter has a mild dilemma.
Second obvious suspect alibis out, Castle again surprised.
Secondary cast gets 30 seconds for a quip and limited character development.
New suspect we've never seen also has an alibi but suddenly remembers obvious key detail they thought was unimportant.
Daughter's dilemma solved, she remains the perfect child.
Guest star is caught, admits everything after some light interrogation, asks for lawyer far too late, if at all.
Castle makes a quip and episode ends w/either him or Beckett looking at the other longingly as they walk away.
