I wouldn't put it ahead of Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire at this point. I can't say that I'd rank it ahead of Mad Men or Walking Dead at this point.

When the series first started, I watched the first couple episodes then I gave up because I thought it was stupid and more than a little gross. Despite hearing how great it was for a few years I refused to watch it because I had already formed my opinion. I didn't give it a try again until a few months ago. They were right. I was wrong. It just gets better the further on you go.

if you thought the first season was "meh" you probably wont love the series.

This, although I think your belief that it was "meh" was colored by your expectations of the show. You probably kept thinking to yourself, "When does it get better?" rather than thinking "Man, this guy's life is rough. I hope he makes it." You were probably immediately withdrawn from the aspects of the show that actually make it great - the characters - because you were expecting to be blown away from take 1.

As someone else said, it's a slow burner. It takes about a full season to a full season and a half to find its legs and then to get going.

BUT, just because you thought Season 1 was "meh," doesn't mean you won't think the show is great. But as Pilot said, you may not "love the series" either.

Wasn't season 1 the shortened one? Like 8 or 9 episodes max? I remember it being good, but it wasn't until about halfway through season 2 that I was truly hooked. I knocked out the first 2 seasons in about 2 weeks. Keep at it.

everyone is saying give it time and it will get better while it does get better if you didn't like season 1 I have a feeling the rest of the show isn't going to turn you into a fanboy.

I felt the same way after season 1 and was told keep going, I went all the way to middle of season 4 then I stopped. It is a great and original concept for a show but to me every single character was so unlikeable that I did not care what happened to any of them, I literally had no connection with any character. when I dislike all people on the show it makes it kind of hard to give a shite what happens next. my perfect episode would be someone locking the entire cast in a house and set it on fire.

I do think you should wait until the end of S2 before writing of the show. Season 1 is all setup, honestly. Season 2 is when they start knocking the world down. If you don't like it then, you should jump ship. But what I do like about the show is how much characters change. It is a show that stresses character development.

It's a good show, it's nowhere near GoT or boardwalk

I really need to start Boardwalk. I think that would be right up my alley. I love Buscemi and Prohibition.

Well you got further than I did. I know it's a show everyone praises but I've read the plot description and it just doesn't spark my interest.

I agree. I watched the first 4 seasons because everyone said it was so good. Finally stopped because I realized I thought the show sucked and hated all the characters other than Saul.

Yeah, Prohibition rocks. People killing each other over booze. More alcohol consumption than before Prohibition because people liked doing something illegal. Seagrem's building an empire by smuggling whiskey across the Canadian border.... good times. Look, peaceful eras of history of prosperity are boring. Give me the corrupt as hell eras. Terrible to live through, great to read about.

Terrible mindset to have when picking a new show/movie to watch.

Pretty sure he took your original phrasing as you like Prohibition, not the Prohibition Era.

I was hooked after the first episode and it just kept building and building

I watched the first episode and didn't come back till months later. The show is dark and I wasn't in the mood for it at the time. The scene that made me really start to appreciate the show was when he was putting the broken plate back together.

Even then, season one is a slow build, and I don't blame people for not being blown away by it, but it gets so much better.
