I'm cool with where they've taken things.
The sex thing made sense to me. When I was younger we were shown a film about MADD. The only thing that stuck out to me was a woman that lost a child saying how guilty she felt because she wanted to make love right after she found out about the accident. She was told it was normal and something about wanting to feel close to someone to cope with grief.
The killing of the redneck showed that Dexter isn't really emotionless. He killed that guy out of anger, something we really haven't seen Dexter do before, at least not at that level of not preparing for it. That brings up an interesting topic that I'm torn on...
Seems to me Dex is developing feelings or emotions. The crying/scream/whatever that was in the bathroom. He seemed to realize and admit that he actually love Rita on some level at the end of his eulogy. Is this really possible in the real world? Someone so damaged and devoid of emotion as Dexter actually evolving this way? I think probably not or it would have happened with Harry. Or maybe it did happen with Harry and Dex never realized it...he does appear very fond of him. I'm cool with that direction if they want to go there...just wondering if it's possible in reality.

I thought it was just a cliche of a cliche.

Yeah, I get this and respect it.

I thought he had realized that way back. I thought his internal thawing had been going on for several seasons - that's why I didn't like when it was seemingly back to total robot mode.

I'm thinking maybe we've realized it a lot more than he has.
My problem is I've read the books (currently reading the fourth), and Dex is a little different there. He's completely cold and devoid of emotion, although he does seem to enjoy interactions with some people like Deb or the kids.
TV Dexter is more of an actual good guy...or as much as a serial killer can be.

I don't disagree at all. That MADD movie always stuck with me. If I hadn't seen it these scenes would have made no sense to me at all. I've never felt like getting down when someone close dies.
