I watched Claire Denis' 35 Shots of Rum about 4 weeks ago and it still hasn't left me. It's available to watch instantly.
It's a prosaic melodrama, so you have to be able to appreciate its slowness. If you're a fan of Yasujiro Ozu movies you will like this one.
Stat boner: 96% - 56 reviews on rotten tomatoes
short synopsis: The relationship between a father and daughter is complicated by the arrival of a handsome young man.
other than that I would suggest doing no reading about it. I had fun trying to figure out all the character relationships, which don't fully emerge until about 20-30 minutes in

Got up super early this morning. Watched Il Posto. Early 60s work place disillusionment film from Italian director Ermanno Olmi. Good stuff.

Combination of netflix, tcm/dvr and downloads.
Only movies I buy are ones I've already seen and like a lot.
