First, besides Widmore wearing fatigues, we have no idea if he was actually in the military. If anything, they have made bigger inferences that the Others have confiscated army uniforms, presumably to infiltrate them as they were testing nuclear bombs. Although not unheard of, it seems fairly unlikely that a young Australian man in the 50's would join the US army, and even less unlikely that Eloise Hawking, a young British woman in her early 20's would even be allowed to enlist, yet she too was wearing fatigues. It's a conclusion I dont think anyone should make.
Widmore specifically asked them why they came back to "our" Island, and Eloise was only 15.

Also, I doubt that Widmore is working for MIB. Being the leader of the Others for however long, he is supposed to be loyal to Jacob, and presumably so. It' s plausible he's a double agent, but nothing leans toward that, but it would not surprise me if Jacob in fact never actually spoke to Widmore, much like he never spoke to Ben. It seems even less likely that he somehow became aligned with MIB off island as he would have no communication. The only caveat to that theory is Abbadon, since I believe he is the MIB's equivalent to Jacob's Ricardus. And we know that Abbadon worked for Widmore. But, was it actually the other way around???
That being said, I think Widmore is more another pawn in MIB's elaborate plan, much the same way Locke and Ben were. Widmore's lust for power, his ego, desire for wealth, and moral ambiguity make him a perfect person to be unknowingly manipulated by MIB. I'll be very curious to see how he reacts when he discovers that Jacob is dead.
Widmore could also feel betrayed by Jacob, and he may have been manipulated by the Monster while he was still on the Island. And it seems like the Monster can send messages through people's dreams, so thats how they've been keeping in touch off Island. Also Widmore may not know exactly what would happen if the Monster left the Island.

I had been meaning to post this for a few weeks now, but haven't had the time. But I've always thought Ben was going to wind up on Jacob's side. Y'all may have discussed this, but I haven't seen it. Benjamin was Jacob's 12(?) and final son in the Bible. (Perhaps his "final" son is important and means Ben will wind up being the protector of the island--he's my guess as of right now). And Benjamin's mother in the Bible(Rachel, I think) also died in childbirth, so it's obviously more than just a coincidence.
Yeah, Ben was very appropriately named. Benjamin translates to "Son of my womb". This name indicated that the mother died in childbirth.

The Others were on the island before the US Army it seems

Why do people think the cave is Jacob's? The MIB has never been able to get into Jacob's abode without some type of help, so why would the cave be any different unless it was the MIB's? The lighthouse is Jacob's so he can watch his candidates. MIB crossed out Lockes name due to Lockes death. Jacob died before he could cross out Lockes name in the Lighthouse.

I think eloise was actually 17, not that it matters... She wouldn't have been in the us army.

It's interesting that Sayid followed "Esau" considering Esau is linked to the foundation of Islam while Jacob, or Israel, is obviously linked to the Jews and Christians.
Nope. Esau doesn't have much to do with the founding of Islam. You are thinking of Issac's brother (Essau and Jacob's father) Ishmael.

He can get into jacob's cave because jacob is dead.

I'm trying to read this whole thread before commenting, so as not to repeat what has been said 10 times. Unfortunately, the thread is growing about as fast as I'm reading.

I trusted that you were accurate in your conjecture and this is what I get in return...
Who can I trust to read the bible on my behalf

We might start needing a Pre-Episode Thread, a during episode thread and a Post-Episode Thread.

Don't forget snack threads for each of those phases as well

Yes Ishmeal was the first son of Abraham that he had with a concubine midianite woman going against God's promise that he would give him a son with Sarah, his wife.
Ishmael is considered the lineage of the Islamic faith, but Esau was historically thought of as also being a part of that line as his people were close with the Ishmaelites

i'm with ya.
loved the episode.
loved where ben and jack's character went, also liked whoever mentioned that the closing was a lot like the "return to camp" closings of season one.
the last two episodes have really been an assembling of both sides.
the intro of widmore will be interesting to say the least.
someone asked way back if a sub could dock at the hydra. the hydra is the station that charlie drowned in right??
theres a big open area in the middle of it that looks about right for that.
lastly, if someone doesn't like uncle stu, why would they want him to die in his sleep?? don't you mean a fire?? shite, i hope i die in my sleep.
however i like stu b/c anyone who references "real genius" is ok in my book.

The looking glass was where charlie drowned. The hydra station was where jack was held in the drained aquarium.

Said this a few pages back but it was never seen.
Did anyone notice that at the airport, the Lady asked Sun if she could speak english.
She referred to her as Ms. Paik (her maiden name) this normally would be ok since most korean women dont take their husband's name.
But with Sun she originally took the Kwon last name.
So i wonder if they are married in the alternate

I think sun's surname is still legally paik. She's just calling herself kwon for her new life in america.
