I just cant help but question whether greater good could come from the death of John Locke.. Yes MIB pretty much set him up to die, and used him, but what if we find out he did this for the greater good of the island.

This would be my best guess for the time being...until the writers throw us another curve ball

I don't think its the Temple.

Why were the Others only worried about MiB/Smokey entering the Temple after Jacob was dead? The put the ash ring around during the panic of finding out about Jacob's demise.

Prior to that, we know that Smokey was underneath the wall of the Temple. So he could have entered at any time, barring Jacob preventing him from entering in some way.

He refuses to listen to any other opinion but his own and he jumps into things without thinking it through. He always goes off of first impulse. This is almost entirely Jack's fault.

1) This was Faraday's idea and opinion. He is the only one that has any knowledge of what the hell is going on. He took an experts advice

2) There seemed to be quite a few others on board, including Juliet. She told Sawyer that Jack should do it. Sawyer should blame her...or himself for gazing at Kate. And if he was going to do it, Juliet and Sawyer didn't have to be right there when it happened

3) Jack looked at Kate (the person most against it) before he dropped the bomb and she gave him the nod.

So when Jack dropped the bomb, who's opinion should he have taken? If there were a vote, which losties would have been against it? Sawyer and Miles at most.

Maybe Jacob somehow was protecting the Temple

Yeah, at least back in the 70s-80s when Rouseau's crew arrived...still can't be certain that it could make it all the way through the wall to the temple.

I recall that someone said the Smokey was like a security system...did they mean a security system for the temple or for the island as a whole?

The security system is a question I definitely want answered. I usually don't care about that much, but that is one that needs to be answered.

Security system for what, exactly.

Well I don't think it really is a security system in any way. The people of the island just didn't understand what it really was and that was their best guess.

i think they bit off alot more than they can chew with smokey. how was it that ben was able to call in the monster whenever the mercenaries were wrecking shite yet there was also a forcefield stopping him from getting into othertown

Well ben could have turned off the security system from his hut (since he was leader at the time)

the sonic security system didn't really protect them but MIB just decided to play it that way so they felt safe and didn't learn more and really figure out the ash thing to stop him...

There's more than meets the eye. MIB pretty much implied he was Smokey last night. However... wtf was the whole draining the water thing for that Ben did to summon Smokey? That's pretty odd.

And Smokey hangs in the temple, or in the outer walls, but can't enter it? I don't know. I don't think its as simple as MIB actually being Smokey.

And Ilana and her people went to the cabin to do what? Confront MIB? Why not go to Jacob first? They were there at his bidding. "Someone else has been using it". We know Smokey wasn't confined to the cabin, but the ash ring indicates that someone wanted to keep smokey in or out... since he was out, maybe they wanted to keep him out?

Maybe there is a 3rd party here that we aren't aware of? Who was Christian and Claire back in the states? Who were they referring to about using the cabin? They know Jacob lives in the statue, and we know that Smokey and MIB were not confined to the cabin, but we see Christian in the cabin? We've assumed the MIB took the form of Christian and Walt and whoever, because we know he took the form of Locke. But maybe there is someone else involved?

SIDE QUESTION: Does anyone remember seeing the Japanese man that appears to be a leader of the others? I don't remember him from other times/scenes before last night.

You mean Dogan? Hard to imagine anyone forgot about him.

ETA: He's a new character. That's why you haven't seen him before.

How fitting would it be if Locke #2 ends up being a major role in MIB's demise? After that whole spiel about making Locke seem special in order to get near Jacob, even though Locke was just a sad, pathetic man.

Something tells me that Jacob kept the Monster in check to where he couldn't invade the Temple. Once Jacob is dead, thats when they start freaking out because the Monster can now go around the Island freely.

True, but that expert was proven very, very wrong at the end. He maybe should have thought it through a little more since it didn't work out well for Faraday.

I'm thinking outsiders. But the Monster also has another important role, and that was a judge. Something tells me the Monster can't harm any person it perceives as morally righteous, which is the reason I believe the Monster couldn't kill Jacob. The only way he could is to get a horrible person (Ben) to do it under threat of death.
