Can't believe no one said Denzel Washington or Al Pacino

Al Pacino
although he is a great actor, i see him pretty much playing the same roll in each film.

denzel's always over dramatic..
but yes i'd list him.
i must say, pacino was good in scent of a woman..
i think robin williams runs decently versatile. i like edward norton.. but i still say my boy dustin hoffman doesn't get enough credit..
johnny depp is good too especially bc of his earlier stuff.

I'd say Jim Carry
I was actually coming in to discuss him. I don't know if I would say one of the most versatile, but he has shown way more versatility than i would have ever expected early in his career.

Agree with:
Carrey
PSH
Downey Jr
Cheadle
DDL
Williams
Streep
Oldman
Pitt
Viggo
Don't think Nicholson or Duvall has been mentioned.
Disagree with:
Pacino
Rockwell
JGL
Hanks
Smith
Not that I don't think some of these are really good actors, just versatile isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think of them.
Torn on:
Depp
DiCaprio
Hopkins

I love Rockwell. He is probably one of my top 10 favorite actors and he probably should have been under my "torn" list. He is great, but I think he needs to lose his quirkiness in a few roles. I guess it could be argued that that is what makes him different and good but I don't think it helps his versatile argument.
Moon
Assasination of Jessie James
Hitchikers Guide
Iron Man 2
Matchstick Men
The Green Mile
That's all I can think of that I've seen him in, am I missing some really good movies of his?

These are his films
There isn't a "Sam Rockwell"-type role, he's performed numerous different characters.

Oldman and Day-Lewis for sure.
And I would Don Cheadle.
ya plus turturro and christian bale
charleze theron gets a little bit of a nod for monster... although that was largely a physical transformation (and a lot of the time she's in a don't act just look pretty part)
meryl streep is an obvious one
robert duvall is a great one
sean penn is probably the greatest example in the last 30 years... guy can nail anything from spicoli to a death row inmate
sam rockwell as others have mentioned

Leo ain't a bad actor at all but I don't think versatility is his strong point.
