Their plan worked to perfection...get you hooked on the cheap compared to cable...drive the competition out of business...then drive the price up.

Sadly, I agree with this. And I am strongly considering ending my long relationship with Netflix. Not because I can't afford it, but because I believe that a sudden 66% increase in price is a big "frick you."

The price hike is upsetting and despicable and I joined in with the 40,000 other customers who left raw feedback on the Netflix FB page.

Y'all are a bunch of broke slap dick mother frickers if you're really complaining about $7, $15, or even $30 a month for the service.

Unlimited streaming is what $8 bucks a month. Charge me $20, I really don't give a frick. If I want to watch the entire season of Office, 30 Rock, etc. on demand...whatever episode...point...click...

Ok bud. Thanks for layin down the law on what is the appropriate amount of money to complain about.

The price increase is hard to stomach but I gotta say I understand. I mean, what we had for this long was too good to be true. When Netflix first secured their licenses to stream this stuff, networks saw them as a vessel to promote their shows. Now you hear people whittling down their cable/dish services and some cancelling them altogether and these networks/licensers are seeing Netflix as competition. The prices on the front end for Netflix have gone up exponentially. They simply can't go on offering the services at the same price when their overhead has shot way up and will continue to do so. I'm afraid this is just the first of a long string of price hikes. I'm OK with it though because the service is just so wonderful but I definitely understand the negative feelings some people have about it.

As for the OP--I've gotten at least 10 of those emails over the past year and not once had I ever noticed the problem I was getting refunded for.

I do this trick with my tongue that gets me an extra .13 cents off per month so I'm satisfied.

Said sorry for a problem you may have experienced while streaming and gives a 3% credit towards a 7.99 streaming plan. So, .03x7.99 is about $.24 off? Gee, thanks netflix.

The email, I just feel like its pretty pointless for a fricking quarter. Don't even waste my time.

Hate to be cliche, but why you mad?
Regardless of how much the per month service went up (you did not start the thread to discuss that) it seems like a company giving you a fair compensation for a mistake that occurred on their part. What the hell else do you want??
More money? Less money? Don't want to be annoyed by positive and speedy customer service on this issue? What is your point, angry man?

"Who needs sex and drugs and partying when we can cook a meal and sit around and watch Netflix?"

Good thing Kenny is dead; he couldn't afford the cult of Netflix now.

I'm not angry now. If they keep this change in their customer service up I probably will be in the future.

I just had lunch with some friends that are having the same reaction many others have. That's either they are thinking about, or already have cut their account. They don't feel its worth it anymore.

Also gonna agree with lsubeast and add that giving me a quarter after jumping my monthly payment 66% would seem like a bigger frick you.

Does anyone remember exactly what the past reimbursement emails netflix has sent out said? Just so we could possibly compare.

What change? That they are reimbursing you for mistakes?

You started this thread solely for that email, not the entire price change, so I'm just wondering what your complaint about that is. It doesn't make sense.

The price change is a part of that. I only remember one time they have changed the price and it was in the past year. That time we knew well in advance. This time, they sent out emails the day before? I have been a member since 2007.

Like I said, let's compare the previous reimbursements and this new $.25 one and see if there is a change.

ETA: I could be wrong, but I thought I remember them saying the first time they raised prices that they hoped to not do that again. I wish I could dig up those emails.

seriously?

you're bitching about 60% of 9.99?

it's not like they bumped it 60% of $100.

Wow.

It's not a "frick you." It's a "we gotta turn a profit somehow."

They are about to pay out the arse for licensing and streaming rights so you can watch Baywatch season 4 from the comfort of your couch and a simple mouse click.

If you don't think that's worth 8 dollars, or god help us, $16!, then so be it. But to act like it's some grossly evil scheme is quite a bit ridiculous.

What were the other reimbursements for? Like I said before, they reimbursed you the one day of service that was out.

Key word. Not "promised".

They penned a 5 year, nearly billion dollar deal to increase streaming drastically and raised the price a buck. There are more rights becoming available in the next 1-2 years where Netflix will have to bid against HBO, Showtime, et al and those won't be cheap.

All these people bitching about having to pay $16 a month for unlimited streaming and one-DVD-at-a-time service reminds me of a Louis CK joke. How quickly we forget how much better Netflix is than anything that used to be around, much less how much better it is than any of its present competitors.

That is a 66% increase. Are you honestly saying you don't care when something jumps 66%?

NetFlix was under priced at $10 per month. Blockbuster was charging $12 for just discs. Yes you got better access to new releases but no streaming. RedBox is a similar but cheaper alternative with the trade offs being no streaming and having to go get/return discs on a schedule.

It's really hard to put a value on NetFlix streaming since on the surface the selection seems so limited, but judging by this board and my own experience people use it frequently. To me NetFlix Streaming plus RedBox looks like the best "plan" right now. Anyone who is truly outraged by NetFlix's price change has some messed up priorities. BTW, I'm not talking about you, when the price change hit they posted some ridiculous quotes from attention whores cancelling their service to send NetFlix a message

I'm not mad but when prices are raised on anything (no matter how small). I would like to see 1 of 2 things.

1) An increase in value for the customer. Like a better selection being offered for the streaming service. Which Netflix has already stated that the recently lost movies from the starz will not be replaced.

2) An explanation of how the money is going to cover an increase in the cost of operating. Ex - rising shipping cost.

Netflix has already stated that neither is going to happen. Which leaves a lot of customers puzzled as to why the sudden increase in price.

It's not just about the price increase, it's how they cornered the market with an implied promise and how they've acted in the past - like being sued before for being deliberately dishonest to their customers. It seems Netflix is going in reverse now in their service but charging more to recoup "lost" profits in their coup to corner the market.

quote:

What this is really showing is where the money is coming from.

Obviously Netflix is making a killing on their streaming service and wants to continue raking in the easy revenue.

By effectively raising the prices of DVDs, the company is banking on people — like myself — cancelling their DVD subscriptions and solely relying on streaming.

The company can then cut costs by dealing with fewer customers to package and ship DVDs to, as well as less of a hassle of lost or damaged discs.

The catch is Netflix has been losing rights to stream certain shows on its service.

Offering less content for more money doesn't make sense.

The flip side would be with all the costs Netflix will be saving by losing expensive DVD customers, the company could use the added revenue to go after bigger studios to further expand its streaming library.

But I don't see that happening.

I think they've plateaued as a service and aren't interested in getting better.
