Ben won the fire making challenge his season and of course ended up winning, but he didn't give up immunity for it. That was the first season that the final 4 had a fire making challenge and it saved Ben's arse as he was going home otherwise. Chrissy had been dominating that season socially/strategically and Ben had been dominating physically and with idols.
Chris is the only person that I remember doing it, and he ended up winning after coming back from EOE.
There was at least one time before where I thought someone should have tried that strategy but they chickened out.

Consider this:
Tony won $3 million dollars all because Woo took Tony to the finals in Survivor: Cagayan instead of Kass. Woo would have beaten Kass and Tony would have never been on this season.
Tony deserved to win but I would have been okay with any of the 3. I thought Nick was going to vote for Michele when he made the comment that he knew what it was like to be in the outs. Rob was going to vote for Tony no matter what.

Woo made one of the worst moves in Survivor history doing that.
As bad as Colby taking Tina instead of the guy everyone hated.

Sometimes it takes luck to get to the end. Tony played the best game this season and was lucky at times as well. Every winner has had this. One wrong move derails some that may be more worthy.

Eric giving up his immunity necklace was also one of the worst. I had him in a Survivor Pool and was already counting my winnings when he gave up the necklace. I hated those women for years.

JT gifting Russell an immunity idol was pretty bad too.
Colby and Woo both gave up $1M when it was right there in front of them.
I'm sure Colby thought he was going to beat Tina, and he should have really, so it's hard to say that's the worst. Woo had no shot against Tony, he was just so loyal that he stuck with Tony to the end.
I've also always wondered how season 1 would have gone if Kelly had kept Rudy instead of Richard.
