Yeah, that's probably true.

Isn't a bit more nuanced than that?

Well, he had that coming.

I wouldn't say they were more intelligent than Walt and Gus. Instincts and luck played a large part in Hanks successes. He was a great cop. Mike was a great fixer. All great characters.

No. She was still hanging with him at the last episode of the show

Well, she was neck deep by that time.

Maybe Gus, but not Walt. Hank caught Walt by chance, not because of his investigative work. Without Leaves of Grass being left in the bathroom, Hank isn't close to suspecting Walt.

What's a good example of Skylar sucking (to the extent Walt does) BEFORE it was revealed to her that he was a criminal monster living under her roof endangering her entire family?
Well, considering that the very first episode is when Walt turns to cooking meth, we don't see them beforehand.
And your phrasing makes me see that you're one of the people who puts all the blame on Walt and none on Skylar because he was the one who knocked the first domino...even to the point of saying that it was basically walt's fault and he deserved for her to cheat on him and rub it in his face.
Skylar apologist.

No he didn't. It's evident from the first episode. He sees the amount of money on the TV at the bust and anyone who has watched the show knows he thought. I want that. Then at the first cook he cooks and throws it away because it isn't perfect.
That dude was never once thinking about his family.
Of course he was thinking about his family...he saw the money and knew that they needed money for his cancer, so he decided to cook. But it was still to get money and make a better life. It just so happens that he developed an appetite for power in the process, and then got addicted to that.
But you can't say it wasn't ever about his family, because it was...even if it eventually became more about the power, his goal over and over was to not only pay for his treatments but to also set them up after he was gone. And this was reiterated and sealed in the finale when he makes Grey Matter give his family money long after he's dead.

And Skyler is a terrible mother and a stupid person. She stays with Walt after all the truth comes out. Which negates any feelings of good will or woe is me or any of that shite.
She finds out what he's doing and stays. She cheats on him and rubs it in his face. She realized he baby is in life jeopardy and says with him. Never tells the cops, never tells her brother in law, never does anything except love the money and become a huge bitch.
In real life, as some poster is super fond of saying, you'd hate both parents and call child protective services.
I agree with pretty much all of that.

Hank is CLEARLY the person you would be pulling for in real life.
First time watching and now re-watching it, Hank was and is my favorite character.
Very underrated how smart he is (or was

In terms of IQ, Walt and Gus are superior to Hank and Mike of course.
When I said "all-around" I meant Hank and Mike's ability to read situations. Both are superior in this area to Walt and Gus whom are both drunk on the love of power.

Hank was the only one on the force that knew that Heisenberg was still out there. And when Gale was murdered (albeit a drunk Walt give Hank a "nugget" that Gale wasn't Heisenberg), Hank went back and was able to tie Gus to Gale. He was so much smarter than anyone in that DEA office it's not even funny.
And there are several more examples of this.

I had forgotten that Mike had saved Walt's life by calling Gus when the twins came to kill him. Also, Gus saved his life a second time when he gave them Hank's name for revenge (then called and warned Hank).
Gus was probably the smartest person in the series, even smarter than Walt. Walt was very intelligent but the only thing he knew really well was Chemistry.
He got lucky a few times and he also felt he had nothing to lose, at times.

To answer the OP: I do feel more sympathetic to Skyler. I guess it might be because we know how it ends. What she deals with.
I wonder if she would have left, how things would have turned out for her.

I think I'm the only person that is not a huge Hank fan. I don't dislike the character but never really thought he was great. (Except for the parts where he goes bad arse for short periods).

My favorite characters, in order:
1. Gus
2. Mike
3. Tio
I hated Walt. Wanted him to die as early as Season 1. I was never swayed one way or the other with Hank. I liked Jesse more than either of them. He seemed way more human to me than Walt.
