It was great
Yeah that piledriver ruined his career, it had to be responsible for his nerve damage that came later

Thanks for the post. I watched it today and enjoyed it. I had no idea it was out.

They left out quite a bit, in particular his spousal abuse. It was well-done, but I prefer Dark Side of the Ring because they don’t pull any punches. New season starts in a couple weeks.

quote:Obviously Owen's not available for comment, but I could only speculate as a one time huge fan. The tombstone wasn't seen as a safer alternative of a piledriver, though you're right, it seems much safer. Next, the tombstone, especially within the WWF was creatively earmarked at the time strictly as "Taker's thing." Nobody else was going to use it. I remember Fit Finlay using it on WCW, but nobody was going to use it on Monday Night Raw. Whether Dave did it in Ireland or the UK or wherever he was working before he came to the states, is a possibility but IDK that for sure.
Why didn’t Hart just do a tombstone style in between his legs so Steve’s head wasn’t lower than his knees?
That was before Kane showed up on television as his character was in the phases of development at that time (I believe), anyway nobody but nobody was going to do the tombstone as a finisher, a maneuver, or otherwise except the Undertaker on a WWE show. Had Kane been around he would have obviously been the only other one. The piledriver used to be as common as a headlock in wrestling. You wouldn't be surprised to see it in every other match on the card. Now, especially with concussions being avoided like the plague in wrestling or any sports, you never see a classic style piledriver due to risking injuries such as these.
Owen attempted this piledriver during a real flow of this match which he and the rest of the Harts had a sixth sense of being able to understand everything involved from what the crowd was doing, to his opponent's concerns, and that of his own. He had probably nailed that piledriver perfectly 257 times prior to that without a single hitch and this was probably just some freak accident with respect to Owen Hart's performability. Dude hardly ever messed up in the ring, and this happened to
be a very costly one, on a huge pay per view.
If you notice, it's basically night and day in my opinion for how fast and sharp Steve Austin used to hit the ropes, and get his offense in and work matches in general before this accident and after through his career. Sure he worked well enough to be the main event and be champion for a significant amount of time trading that spot with the Rock before his physical concerns forced him to retire from wrestling altogether, but Steve was closer to great before this accident as a worker than he was after. Just my two cents.
I didn't even know about a Stone Cold documentary?? I want to watch this.

I still think his work (technical abilities) were best when he wrestled Ricky steamboat as stunning Steve Austin

Brought back a lot of great memories as a kid at that time. It was the best era of wrestling and when we got to school we always try to do the wrestling moves on each other. The teachers did not like that at all lol.
did you go all DX on the hot teacher and tell her to suck it... with the chop for emphasis of course

No argument, here. Austin's "Stunning" phase is criminally overlooked. Had he remained in WCW, I was certain he'd develop into the second-coming of Ric Flair.

Unlikely to happen without a major overhaul of WCW’s dysfunctional organization and Bischoff signing Hogan et all in 1994 showed Austin, Foley, and others the door.

Its not like Owen was an idiot in the ring..he was probably one of the best technicians at the time..just one of those things that got fricked up in the moment imo.
May have been better for Austin's career in a waybat that time. Cause it gave him more tv time as a personality, and his talent on the mic was able to be broadcast more efficiently and effectively.
And when the audience really gets to know a character, and accepts thrm..that character can just show up, make a mean face, talk shite, drink beer and its all good.

I remember watching that hospital beating live. I was so stoned and it was such a hilarious bit.
It always blew my mind how far Vince and Shane used to go for that company in the late 90s. What other billionaire acts that way lol
No way Jerry Jones would have let Troy Aikman pull down his underwear and pretend to sexually assault his arse on live tv.
