Watched this for the first time, been on a Beatty kick and love spy/political thrillers.
I really enjoyed the first half, where it was really kind of a small-time All The Presidents Men (in no small part I'm sure to the direction of Alan J. Pakula, director of both films), but the second half, for me, kind of went off the rails.
I know he was supposed to be infiltrating the Parallax Corp., but wasn't Beatty extremely careless there? Like he wouldn't have been figured out by this super intelligent, super shadowy organization?
Don't know, maybe I'm conflating modern day surveillance states to a very low tech 1970s, where no internet, cell phones or cameras existed... But Betty's char after was supposed to be no dummy. How was he so careless to try to dupe these guys? And of course you saw the end coming pretty far out, especially once the editor got it.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie, since there's so many high level filmmakers at work here, but it just didn't have the same impact on me as some other films like the aforementioned All the Presidents Men and more modern spy/paranoia movies like JFK or Tinker Taylor.

Yeah it's solid very good movie. Another political/spy type thriller that came out around the same time you might want to check out is Three Days of the Condor.
When it comes to Beatty check out Mickey One if you get a chance.
