The Road is one I've always thought about watching but never pulled the trigger on. Just gave off sort of a "long/boring" vibe to me for whatever reason. Am I wrong on that?
Okay, so I finally watched this because of this thread. It was a bit on the long/boring side, as I suspected. But all in all I didn't hate it.
I don't think it was very "inspirational" at all though. It was dark and bleak, like most have said. And not very much happened.
I did keep getting annoyed at the stupid decisions Viggo kept making though. And it could have (and should have) cost him his son's life on more than one occasion. Swimming out to the boat was just completely stupid, especially at that time when they had crossed paths with other people.
Was pretty brutal when he died though, and as a dad of an only son that hit me weirdly.
Also, that "family" at the very end...........they 100% raped, murdered, and ate the son, right?

I was hesitant to pick this one up because of the shitty Matt Damon movie, but there are passages that are on a par with any poetry ever written. I was astounded that the guy that gave me such despair could write something that soared so high.
Same and because it was like AP 10th grade lit fodder
But I'll just say it at this point ATPH is probably my favorite McCarthy book and I've read everything but Suttree
