No. I have no idea why this happened. It is the first time one of my posts, to my knowledge anyways, has been marked unreadable. I don't remember my exact words but I don't think I used any profanity and there were no pics posted or links to anything. Just good old fashioned zombie debate!
Looks like you said "zipper head" in reference to the asian kid. Racism is a no-no and someone saw it and marked it unreadable.

As far as the ring thing, I got from their conversation in the tent that they were having marital issues, and were kinda rocky. Something was said @ forgetting all the bad things etc..Also, she said "you want it back?" like he relinquished it at some point in time.
I am convinced that this is what happened.
I can't stand the Shane dude, BUT...I'm not gonna condemn him just yet for banging Rick's wife. I mean, for all we know, he thought he was dead too. It's just speculation to assume that he's just an a-hole who's out to frick his buddy's wife.
I do wonder if that little affair was possibly going on before all this though. Her reaction at the quarry makes me think that maybe it wasn't, but I'm still not sure yet.
I'll post my recap once I'm fully caught up with the thread.
Solid episode last night though.

I'm not completely sold on his partner being a total douche.
Think about it. The guy was in a coma in a hospital that got overrun with zombies. Going back to see if he was alive would do what? The guy was in a coma. Assuming he was dead is very logical.
With that said, I still think it was wrong to TELL her he was DEAD. I don't know what I expect him to do though.
There you go...two posts later. This is basically exactly how I feel about Shane. Assuming Rick was dead is obviously logical. shite, they even talked about it at the camp about how they were told Rick would be medevac'd to Atlanta, but that it never happened, and then teh hospital got overrun.

The story alludes that they have a remembrance of somethings but is very limited.
I guess that's more an ode to the fact that even though they're zombies, there is still some sort of deep remembrance of things past. Like why magical negro's wife keeps going back to their house...she's a mindless zombie, but instinctually she knows where she lived, how to turn the doorknob, etc.
I guess I can deal with that. I just really don't want to see them learn/evolve into something other than mindless zombies.

Okay, that's four posts in a row...time for my recap.
Great episode.
I liked how it's only three episodes in, and Rick is already reconnected with his family. I kinda thought they'd drag that journey out a little longer than that. I'm glad that got settled already.
As I said before, I don't hate Shane as much as I did. Unless we find out that he specifically tried to fool the wife into thinking Rick was dead. And it's on the wife just as much (if not more) than Shane. However, that being said, it's really a logical step that both of them would make...Rick is dead, Shane was his best friend and close to the family. He and the wife getting together makes sense. I did like how she immediately stopped the Shane shite and reunited with Rick though...that's what she should have done.
I felt like the whole scene with old boy going crazy on the roof lasted a little too long. Cool at the end how he had cut his hand off though (though that got spoiled for me cuz I clicked this thread yesterday before I watched the show, and saw someone say that...stupid move on my part, but it was killing me to not be in this thread
). Definitely think things will get interesting once he is reunited with the group (and his brother). I liked how Rick stepped up and told the brother what happened though. That was manning the frick up right there. Same with the black dude to an extent.
I was kinda bugged by how none of them seemed too concerned that a zombie was like 50 yards from their camp. They killed him and then just assumed that there weren't any more around...?? After that, I'd either be packing up and moving somewhere else, or setting up one hell of a perimeter around the camp.
Also, good call on whoever said the wife would be pregnant. I didn't think about that...that would definitely make things interesting at camp. Also, it'd be a cool way for it to come to light that Shane and wifey were together.
The whole angle of the abusive husband was kinda weird and seemed unnecessary, but it was cool to see Shane beat the frick out of him. Also loved it when Shane said "You put your hands on a woman, or anybody else in camp, again and I won't stop..." and then spelled it out for him with "I will beat you to death." That was badass.
It was cool to see how even though they've all banded together (out of necessity) into one camp, there still is a lot of individualism going on, especially between groups. Like the tool guy and the mechanic being teamed up and bartering tools for car parts. Seems like there are a lot of factions within the camp. Tool guy/mechanic. Rick/his family/Shane. Rowdy/Boondock. Blonde sisters. The women. Abusive dude/wife. Etc. It's cool to see that even in the Apocalypse, humans still deteriorate into selfish creatures to some degree.
Great show.

This show just hits on so many levels for me. From the opening scene where he is reunited with his family to where he is leaving them again, and Boondock losing it over his brother being gone, their is just so much emotion involved within the scenes. This show has exceeded my level of expectation further than I ever thought possible. I am serioulsy hoping it doesn't take a year for another season to come out. Especially after only giving us 6 episodes this season.

I keep wondering about Morgan Jones...aka Magical Negro and his son. They thought there was a refuge etc, but since there isn't one, where are they?

+1
And I'm enjoying everyone's thoughts in this thread. The quality of the posts is a testament to the greatness of the show IMO.
On reflection I think I was being too hard on the partner and the wife. It's the freaking zombie apocalypse, and the dude was in a coma in a zombie-infested hospital. Every day you wake up you could literally be eaten alive, so I'm thinking that's an acceptable time to team up with a lady you've been attracted to for years. Like y'all said, it's real bad if he left him there on purpose to die so that he could bang the wife, but if he just assumed he had to be dead and then told the wife that so that they wouldn't all die in a futile attempt to rescue him, then that was probably the smart thing to do.
Again, if I have a problem with the show, it's still that I don't understand why that band of survivors would camp out in the woods instead of finding rural/small town shelter. Staying out in the open like that is more risky IMO, and certainly less comfortable, farther away from supplies, etc.

I think so too. They could find an abandoned house on the outskirts of a town by now I'm sure. Pretty risky living in tents like that with these maneaters just lurking around. Or shite, go jack an RV or something, I'm sure there are tons of them just sitting around somewhere. I guess gas may be a problem, but surely they could come up with enough to get it to a safe place where they can all consolidate.

Surely that will be a big part of the story sooner or later. I hope we don't find out later that they made a break for ATL already and got merked. That, or maybe they are in the city and Rick runs across them. I'll bet he gets the radio and hears from them in the next episode or at least before the finale of this season.

Rick is back in ATL in the last minutes of the episode. They went back for the Rowdy, but they also went back for his bag of guns and ammo and a walkie talkie that he is supposed to contact that guy and his son on. He told his wife he had to go back to keep his promise to those two that had saved his life.

You've gotta remember what kinds of things these people have seen over the last month or two. They've seen towns and cities destroyed. The only safe place they've found has been this remote hideaway. I'm sure most people would be wary of leaving a place they feel is safe for the shaky hope of a more secure location.
Buildings = people. In this world, either those people are zombies or are tough enough to survive. Zombies aren't the only reason for their light discipline. Their situation is obviously not sustainable long term, but they don't know if it's only the South that has fallen or if everything everywhere has gone to hell. I'm sure some are secretly hoping for the army to come rolling in and save them.

For all we know, he could have been there until the zombies took over the hospital. The thing is, what is the point in protecting a man in a coma? It is a losing battle.

Didn't rick see a helicopter in the tank scene on the first episode. What happened with that?
Posted on 11/16/10 at 2:47 pm to aaronb023
Just watched all 3 episodes and jumped into the last few pages of the thread. I don't think it could be THAT long that he was in the hospital UNLESS Shane brought the flowers to Rick after the zombie breakout had started. The flowers were dead, but they didn't look month+ long dead. I'd guess 2 weeks.

This has to be what happened. It could have been a slowly escalating thing until a breaking point, and he left the flowers just before that breaking point.
Does anyone know how long would an unmanned IV provide him with fluids?
This talk reminds me of a question I had from the first episode.
Were the 3 bad guys (I think it was 3) in the opening shootout scene running from a zombie outbreak somewhere down the road? It's possible that they were actually the first 3 zombies in Rick's town and that the outbreak started there almost immediately after Rick was in the hospital.
In that scenario, couldn't it all have happened in roughly a week (Rick shot to Rick waking up)? What am I forgetting that makes us think it was a month or more?

I think a lot of people want to assume Rick's wife isn't a whore and waited a little while before hooking up with Shane. That and he's not exactly waking up in the middle of everything, everyone is either a zombie or pretty well holed up. It would have to have been a pretty quick escalation if it was just a week. I'm going to stick with 2 weeks. A week and a half of escalating to the point where he was the only living person in the hospital, then he woke up after about 2 or 3 days unattended.
