The only importance Snoke has to the story is that he turned Kylo Ren and set the stage for a Kylo vs. Rey finale in Episode IX. Otherwise he wouldn't be dead. We don't need to know his backstory right now. Otherwise we would.

My problem with snoke is that you can’t telk anything about him by looking at him
So many Star Wars characters, even nothing characters like boba fett where I can tell all sorts of things about them just by looking at them. They also missed an opportunity by copying the throne room. That set could’ve been used to tell us something about snoke. That’s why the emperors throne room was such a cool set. The lighting and really elevated seating and view of the battle tell me some basic things about him. His clothes too.
Snoke is wearing some kind of Vegas playboy outfit so I think they originally had some connection between him and the casino planet
I didn’t need a lot of screen time or a bigger role in the story, just show me something about him, don’t need to tell me...they do neither

Disney will make people care. Shove it down our throats till you have to just accept it. Kind of like how Disney handles their ESPN hosts. Hate them? Here is more of that host!
