I recently came across an ad somewhere and I was thinking “hey, this commercial is pretty good. If this was actually a movie, I’d see it.” Turns out it was actually a movie.
Listen, is this an action movie with some pretty good action? Yes.
Is the rest of the movie a grab bag of good and bad with certain things that feel like they don’t quite translate? Yes.
The action is often intense. There’s a great kitchen fight. The car chases feel fast. All the action feels like there’s weight to it.
The action does feel a lot front loaded into the movie and the melodrama that feels incredibly Asian that takes up a lot of the second half is not needed.
I like Luke Evans. It’s good to see him in a grumpy starting role where he can showcase his talent for doing action scenes. Him and his love interest have zero chemistry. All the actors are like independent of each other what sort of movie they’re in.
Sung Kang is having a lot of fun as the villain. His henchman was a badass too.
The kid was so fricking annoying.
