quote:CD's are becoming a big focus for me after buying a new CD player I'm running as a transport (SMSL VMV PL100).
I still buy used CDs.
As for buying the lot of records and CDs, if there are 400-500 titles you like, or want to give an old album a first listen, do it.
A lot of the sellers on discogs offer flat shipping so I can pick up a half dozen or more new cd's for the price of a vinyl record. Goodwill and other thrift stores in town often have hundreds of them, many still in the wrapper, for as low as 50-75 cents, so I just buy anything that remotely catches my eye.
Hell, I've got a double album of Elvis singing nothing but Christmas songs, sitting unopened, next to a copy of John Phillip Sousa On Review. Both just waiting for the perfect mood to hit.
Kicking myself for throwing away several fat books of cd's around 15 years ago.

Since I have a Blu-ray player that plays all the formats I will still buy cds.
There are albums from the cd era that just weren’t produced to be on vinyl or were never released on vinyl.
I’ll also buy sacds and Blu-ray audio.

Talk about dead quiet. Was hard to justify the price but based on how much I like, this album and the reviews I pulled the trigger. Not disappointed

So picked up a couple items from an older gentleman in my neighborhood the other day; a turntable and a tape deck that he was throwing out and gave me for free:
Now, obviously they're filthy but both power up and the turntable spins. I haven't got any further than that because I don't want to damage one of my records and don't own a single cassette anymore (ordered a cheap record and tape to use but they're not here yet).
Considering attempting to restore both of them for fun and experience.
Obviously I've googled them but results are all over the map, like most audio equipment, it seems, so looking for absolutely any firsthand experience with either one of these from sound quality to restoration.

Is there a decent turntable out there for $200-$300? Long story short I was gifted a Victrola record player along with a few records a few years ago. I enjoyed the occasional listen on the record player just for fun. Then in January I inherited about 150 classic rock, blues and folk albums from my dad. So my collection is pretty awesome now. Recently I learned the Victrola is bad for the albums and can damage them.
My setup right now is a late 1960s Lafeyatte receiver (also inherited) with a good pair of book shelf speakers. It sounds pretty good to me. Just don’t want to ruin the albums.

I did a little shopping yesterday at Vinyl Edge in the Heights/Houston.
I don't get down there very often so I splurged a little.

What's the model number on that Lafayette receiver?

I realized after I posted that it’s actually an amplifier. Here’s a link for a similar one for sale. Any advice is welcome. I’m considering buying one of the Fluance turntables recommended above. To be honest the cheap Vitrola Eastwood record player through this amp and Monitor Audio bookshelf speakers sounds pretty darn good! Listened to Dire Straits self titled album on it tonight.

Nice
Get that RT 85. It's your best bet.

I discovered a Dynaco 70 Stereo Tube Amphifier that my late father owned in a closet. My mom says some of the grandkids unknowingly flipped on some switches and it overheated and my dad just put it in a closet. I’m taking it to a local electronics repair store to see what happened and possibly repair.
This is a similar unit. Dynaco on Reverb
