Crosby Stills and Nash- Suite: Judy Blue Eyes

Souljah, I think you nailed the best song over 7 minutes in this thread

I want to add Pink Floyd's "Time" which clocks in at 7:06 (barely making it). That song is in the same stratosphere as Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, the others posted are good-great songs.

As a general rule, I hate 7-minute songs, but Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Bob Dylan is just a brilliant song. That thing is just epic.

I definitely did not expect you in this thread, Baloo. 7 minutes is an entire discography for some of the bands you like

That's not that much of an exaggeration. I do own albums with over 10 songs which barely run 15 minutes.

But I also love Dylan. And Metallica can write a decent long song, though most would be improved by cutting out 2 minutes (SEE the And Justice For All album).

Many of my favorites have already been listed, but here's one from my youth, that I haven't seen yet...

What do you think about a couple of his newer 10 minute + tracks? Highlands and Ain't Talkin' come to mind.

I like them both but they're missing something that makes Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands so beautiful. Almost like they are nothing more than an exploration of language and imagery.

I think we've gotten together as a society over the past ten years and decided to just tell Dylan his new stuff is great to make him feel good about himself. Sure, it's not as bad as the crap he was putting out in the 80s, but his recent albums are massively overrated. They are a nice reflection of his essential work, but he's done nothing in the last decade that compares to his peak. Of course, decent Dylan is still better than 95% of everything, but it's still just decent Dylan.
