bradley nowell,
definitely. I know its not cool to like them anymore and radio stations fatigued the frick out of everybody with 3 or 4 songs, but they only had one major release before he dropped dead
I think he had a shitload more killer music in him way beyond the white boy reggae everyone slams him for now. I could listen to dude sing the alphabet. unreal voice and ear for melody

Skydog.
All of this.

Duane Allman - how amazing would the Allman Brothers had been if the original lineup had stayed together for 10+ years? Greatest guitarist I've ever heard. Yes, step aside Hendrix and Page. He and Oakley went way too soon.
All of this.

Also would have liked to see Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon develop more material. I saw them open for Kravitz at UNO and they were so good.

Coltrane. Half the reason I hope to get to heaven is to hear the man play.

Duane Allman
ETA: As was said earlier, it is just crushing to think of how the ABB could have developed from 71-72 had Duane Allman (and Barry Oakley) not died in motorcycle accidents.

Syd Barrett for damn sure. He was such an innovative guitar player... no telling what kind of an impact he could have had (other than already having paved the way for arguably one of the best bands of all time).

Ian Curtis. They still would've went the direction of New Wave but more dark with his superior brooding lyrics attached to the synths.

The correct answer is John Lennon. Not only for his musical impact for for his social/political impact. Since no one as mentioned her I will give honorable mention to Janis Joplin.

Les Paul simply for the fact that I was in NYC with some friends the week he died. He played a set every week at this club called Iridium and we were planning to go, but the cover was $35 and at the last moment we decided we didn't want to spend it. We went to lunch the next day and I get a call from my dad and he says "Guess who died this morning..."
I could've seen Les Paul's last ever show, but was too cheap.
