I saw a video clip of the performance, earlier today. It was “Hokie,” alright. Putting the school logo on the big screens above the stage may have marked the most shameless pandering Metallica’s done, and that’s saying a lot.

I say that as a fan, but it was a bit cringey to me.

I think since the whole Va Tech-Enter Sandman entrance thing is the one and only reason they even played Lane Stadium it wasn’t so bad. They’ve been connected that way for 20 years now, so it didn’t bother me too much.

Pretty sure he also said at the end “We love you Va Tech” as opposed to saying the city Blacksburg. Any other city he says the name of the city.

My first time seeing Metallica live was at the peak of my fandom for the Summer Sanitarium 03 tour

While the show and all other Metallica shows I've seen were amazing, they didn't live up to my expectations after watching the Live shite DVDs. Obviously the guys were almost 20 years older and mostly sober, so the crowd interactions and ad libs were more muted. Not sure if I should have expected all the extras but 15yo me did and came off a bit disappointed.

Now I just hate how they play such huge arse venues and you can't hear shite

Come on, dude. It's their "thing". How does FINALLY playing a gig there after all these years = pandering?

Saw them at welcome to rockville few years ago in Daytona. Good show except Kirk messing up in the beginning of 1.

Thank you! Damn I wish they would go retro for a tour in the next couple of years and play arenas again.

Hell, I don’t even care for arena shows nearly as much as the intimacy of club shows, but these days an arena would be pretty damn intimate for Metallica.

They are still great live today but not even in the same stratosphere as they were in the 80's & early 90s.

Apparently they are since caused an earthquake at Lane stadium
