Lots of pretentious lyricists, especially in early prog. rock.
Just heard this one on the radio:
and thought of this thread.

Rex had a good point. I think Henley's "Sunset Grille" is one of the suckiest "Look at these lyrics and hip chorus" of all time. I like the Eagles but it was not because of him. I also do not like the Eagles enough to care if someone says they are overrated.
I am not even going to research it today, but how many of you were told that song was about Anton LaVey and Satanism? Perhaps it is, but whatever it is -- one of the most overrated songs of all time. When my father-in-law comes over and wants me to play one of the 200 random vinyl I have, he always asks for that just because of Hotel California. If there was ever a song that Eagle 98.1 could retire, they'd have to choose between this one and Steely Dan's "Reeling in the Years".
He also believes Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull front the band known as Iron Maiden.

Stephen Jenkins is a genius lyricist. However, he's a dick bag for a human.
Truer words have never been spoken on the Music Board. I guess To write Motorcycle Drive By I'd have to have a little pretentiousness in me
