Naw

And I like REM

But The Byrds did it all before

And even The Byrds -- aside from Gram Parsons -- have that emotional coolness that prevents them from being #1. Although they are unquestionably the most influential American band of all time.

I used to love REM, but can hardly listen to them anymore. I think I wore myself out on them in the 80s.

I really did love them from like 86-92 or so though.

80s REM was a great show, EVERYTHING after Out of Time was Garbage IMO.

Saw them in the PMAC.

I saw that show, it was ok. I saw them on the green tour and it was pretty epic.

Is there a more unlikable band out there? Just so pompous, pretentious and overly political. Stipe is intolerable. I had forgotten until I tuned into a doc that was on last night.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Probably not, but why get in a twist over an entertainer's politics or lifestyle? Who gives a shite?

All I know is songs like "Man On The Moon" read as if Stipe was hanging out with my friends growing up.

I don't give a shite. But when you include it into material that is already not very likable, It doesn't really help things

Possibly. If you started listening in the mid-90s, I can kind of see why you'd draw this conclusion. However, their first five albums is some of the best music ever recorded. Matter of fact, I'm about to listen to Life's Rich Pageant.

I dont love every REM album, but I like alot of them. I dont care for Stipe's politics, but I respect him as a musician. And I will pound the tables that Murmur is one of the best albums ever made.

Automatic for the People is one of their best. New Adventures is great too.

I listened to later LPs.....and there may have been a few good songs. But as a cohesive album from start to finish they were severely lacking.....but great albums don't sell a single, great singles sell albums.....so we get a lot of filler on those later albums.
