Again Robbie was no saint … although he sowed most of his wild oats when he was rooming with Scorsese after The Band; much blow was consumed … but he was the relative adult in the room with a bunch of Peter Pans. The problem is people often romanticize Peter Pans and gravitate away from the adults in the room.
He didn’t make a ton of music after The Band, but his solo albums are marvelous if anyone has never heard them. And one argument those who think he didn’t write those Band songs use is that they don’t sound like The Band, but the guy made it clear from the start that he was deliberately going 180 degrees away from ground he’d already plowed.
