i like a lot of his stuff. Like others mentioned, he is all over the map when it comes to style, but thats why i like him. I enjoy listening to a southern rock anthem followed by a old style county western ballad
i haven't heard his last album, but my favorites by him are
4th of july
Gone To Carolina
Manifesto No. 1 and No. 2 (silly but kewl songs, almost like if The Violent Femmes made a gospel/country western song)
It Ain't Easy
I've Always Been Crazy
Lonesome Blues
Some Rowdy Women
The Letter
Southern Comfort
Tangled Up Roses
Higher
Old Friend
Slow Train
Blood from a Stone
This Ol Wheel
Hair of the Dog

Forgot about Tangled Up Roses and Blood From a Stone. Both very solid lyrically.

The first time was at a big red dirt festival so I'd think you'd cater to the crowd a bit. He literally said on stage "I'm gonna try some new stuff, you might not like it, but it's what I want to play"
You can get away with that at an event with a jam band and free flow vibe to it, but drunk redneck college students playing in the mud probably isn't it. He was getting a lot of radio play at the time and that's what the crowd was expecting to hear and paid to hear. At least Cody Canada got tagged with a whiskey bottle so that kind of saved the night despite it causing a big stink.

there are a few of his songs I do like. gone to Carolina, 4th July but I am a big Waylon fan and I always get disappointed with his music. I know it's not fair to hold him to his pops legacy, but still, I wish he would put out something that reminds me of Honky Tonk Heroes

So do you not like Wallflowers because Jakob Dylan doesn't sound exactly like his dad?

More props to him. Play to enjoy.

I saw him last week at One Eyed Jacks.
His band had quit so it was an acoustic show.
I enjoyed it and the old chick fingering herself in the booth in front of us REALLY enjoyed it.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of shooter but I will never fault a musician for playing what is stimulating him at the time.
"The musician comes first" -Dave Grohl
We as fans have a tendency to over exaggerate our importance. The musician had his songs long before we ever came along and he'll have them long after we've forgotten about him. He has a certain responsibility as an artist to be honest with himself and if that means losing some of his fans, so be it. At least his songs will be there.

Sounds like a WSP show

I'll give ya that, I probably should have said conservative, republican drunk redneck college students playing in the mud.
WSP has a much bigger following in Fayetteville than they do in Stillwater.

Conversely, if he sounded or tried to sound like Pops, he'd be criticized for living off his Dad's sound ... can't win.
