You're joking right? Denver's music scene is a million times bigger and better than Boulder's.
You're joking right?
Denver may have bigger venues, but most of the top acts out of Colorado (good or bad)got started or cut their teeth in Boulder.
Yonder Mountain String Band
String Cheese Incident
Leftover Salmon
Pretty Lights
3oh3!
Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Big Gigantic

Florida has a rich history in groove-orientated jams. That above album is a great compilation and starting point if you want to foray into Florida funk. A few years later Miami became a disco epicenter which included the infamous TK Records amongst other legendary labels. Finally the Miami Bass movement has had a profound impact on hip hop.

I don't think Brahlorado gets Top 10. Denver/Boulder certainly has one of the best currently live scenes, but if we are talking longevity it doesn't compare to the others listed.

So music began sometime around 1981.

My vote is to keep Washington off the list.
It's difficult, because I love Hendrix. But, Washington has got to go

I thought you were from Jamaica?

Interesting.
Although I'd say per size Jamaica is the second most powerful musical country right behind England.

Had I known the Quasi-Unofficial Voice of the Music Board was from Washington before I had cast my vote, my ballot would've looked a whole lot different

Mississippi
The entire river area is a top music region.
Mississipi, and of course St. Louis - although not quite as important as New Orleans or Chicago, it's right there - ditto for Memphis.
Yeah - this list would be better as cities.

Washington also has Sub Pop, so they get the credit/blame for the 90s alternative music scene. Not to mention the scene in Olympia, Washington which gave us riot grrrl, one of the more influential cultural movements in pop music (though admittedly not very popular, but big stars like Lady Gaga, Pink, and Avril Lavigne co-opted big parts of their image from the riot grrrl movement). Washington is also home to Beat Happening, the fore-runner of the lo fi movement.
Washington is one of the most influential states on American independent rock. Their influence has been massive the past 25 years.
