Other than history, Memphis has NOTHING in the way of music culture these days. Awful contemporary music scene, just awful. No one listens to blues except a small niche and there are very few venues worth a shite. I spent four years there and all people listen to is 1) shitty new country 2) trash Papa Roach nu-metal 3) Three 6 Mafia. Musical culture there is relegated to museums and lost on 95% of the inhabitants there.

Well memphis does have lucero. Lots of folks here seem to like them.

agreed. memphis sucks for the most part, but historically, it's a very relevant city

There is a film called The Louisiana Hayride - Cradle of the Stars that was shown on PBS in the '80s. Good luck trying to find it.

There are a few books about the LH -- check Amazon or your local library. Here is a short introductory essay.
