Sinking of the Princess Sophia
Event that may have altered the course of history for NW Canada and Alaska.
quote:
On October 23, 1918, a storm rose and the Canadian Pacific steamer Princess Sophia ran aground on Vanderbilt Reef, northwest of Juneau, Alaska. Tragically, there were no survivors. The 353 aboard represented a significant cross-section of the population of the Yukon and Alaska, and their loss was a heavy blow to a society that, with the end of the gold rush, was already in decline.

What a fantastic yet tragic story.
The Zahaskys are quite entertaining. They obviously enjoy their music and have such great camaraderie. How well do you know these guys?

We have mutual friends and probably end up at the same house a couple times a year. They live just down the street from me. I see Paul hiking on trails from time to time.
Lots of folk singers in this town, full of old hippies. We have the Ak. Folk Festival every spring in town.
Some more folks I know, locals.
