The Wall of Sound was also influntial to the development of better, louder PAs.

If you "dont buy" that the Grateful Dead has played a central role in live music then you're are just dumb mon

Well, when the dead were still around in the early/mid 90s (and the music was no where near as good as years earlier) the dead were the top touring attraction in the country.

Have always said that dead fans overrated the appeal of the group. CCR was definitely more important by a long shot IMO.

Doubtful, but for arguments sake lets say ccr is more important musically. But culturally they arent anywhere near the dead, nobody is.

Ive always loved what jerry has said about deadheads, the dead is like black licorice, you either really love it or dont like it at all. There is very little middle ground.

Well, they do play 'together, more or less in line.'

Even though I like the Grateful Dead, they are not a top 10 for me. I'll just start listing some American bands I like better...

The Doors
Allman Brothers
The Black Crowes
Blind Melon
Jane's Addiction
Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Dead Weather
The Raconteurs
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
The Ramones
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals
Smashing Pumpkins
Pearl Jam
Steely Dan
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Guns N Roses

I disagree. I am not head over heels in love with them, but I certainly don't hate them. In fact, I like them. I think they are good, but nothing extraordinary.

If you honestly think everyone of those bands belong ahead of the grateful dead in an all time list I don't know what the hell to tell you

Trolls gonna troll.

The phish comment is my favorite. The deads jams have WAY more focus than anything phish has ever done. Phish is 3 guys backing a guitarist who likes to go off on his own.

I like Phish and will be seeing them this summer. But yeah, it's white boy blues all day long. No point in comparing them to the Dead. totally different sounding music.

I think most people are kinda like my mom when it comes to the Dead. They think they were a folk/rock band from the 70s.

The Dead weren't really innovative the way The Beatles were. Their music was a combination of country, blues, bluegrass, jazz, avante garde and the all around WEIRD. Perfect combination for my tastes.

Dead fans are too high to recognize bad music.

The music is a mess. Be honest. You all know it's true.

Set aside your great memories of hanging out and grooving at the shows, and just listen. It's not good.

I think you just suck at music. It's ok some people lack the depth. Not your fault. I would blame your parents.

Phish best years were 97-01 when they jammed as a unit and took their jams places. Prior to that it was trey getting off on stage while the rest of them were just there. They are now a shell of their former selves. This isnt just my opinion (ive only seen 50 shows), i have friends that have seen hundreds of shows and feel the same way.

I agree that they have a tendency these days to just let Trey shred over the band, but all of 1.0 was cohesive jamming. That's what made them so great. They were way way way more cohesive in those days then that Dead ever was. They are on fire right now BTW. Lots of full band interplay, and Type II jamming.

I would say they're in the top 10 for sure. I don't really like their music, but I can respect what they did for rock & roll. I'd put them right outside my top 5 of Creedence, Doors, Boston, Eagles, Aerosmith.

I disagree, but to each his own.

There was nothing cohesive about pre 97 phish, it was all about trey.

And then you go on to point out that you like Panic more than Phish?

The Grateful Dead with out Jerry is as lost and directionless as Widespread Panic with out Mikey Houser.
