Curious why you would take some of these over Elvis.

Because almost nobody under the age of 20 listens to Elvis. Why in the world would people listen to him in 2200?

There’s literally data on this stuff. I wish i could find the article. People under 20 almost exclusively listen to music of the last 20 years.

These are the top exceptions:

- Beatles
- Rolling Stones
- Michael Jackson
- Prince
- Phil Collins/ Genesis
- Johnny Cash
- Nirvana
- Journey
- Fleetwood Mac

MJ, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and Genesis are listened to by young people today because they have very unique sounds. Elvis was a pioneer in rock and roll but there’s nothing extremely unique about him that will have people listening in the future. Hell, young people don’t listen to him now.

I said “heard” of him. They don’t necessarily have to listen to his music. Most all teenagers have heard of Elvis and would recognize a picture of him.

You’re coming across as such a whiny old dickhead.

This isn’t the list of Kafka’s favorite artists

I hate to break it to you, but some people have different taste in music. As much as you might hate Kanye, he’s the most influential artist in Hip-Hop history, which has been the most popular genre for the last 20 years.

I know you probably live in your own little world where Buddy Holly is still the most popular musician around, but out here it’s 2022, and Kanye West has been the king of Billboard for 19 years. He’s also a billionaire, is absolutely insane, and ran for president. It will be a while before people forget about him.

Yeah. But I think once Gen-X dies off it will decrease dramatically. He might be a little picture with a caption in the Post WWII chapter of a US history book, but I think if people aren’t listening to someone nobody will know who they are.

My dark horse picks for rock bands are Skynyrd and CCR. Both had short careers but are growing in popularly with the younger audiences.

I hate to break it to you, but the crappy taste of this generation won't define what stands the test of time for the next 200 years.

At some point, people are going to get sick of listening to music that was created on laptops and want to listen to real musicians again.

You sound dumb as shite. Everyone thinks the next generation’s music sucks. People who grew up in the 40s hated the 60s. People who grew up in the 60s hated the 80’s. People who grew up in the 80’s hated the 2000’s.

Think about what your grandfather would think about today’s music. That’s what you will think about music in 2060. It’s been the pattern for a long time and those that think their generation is somehow special are just unbelievably ignorant.

What five musicians whose peak fame was in the 20th century do you think they would most likely recognize?

The Beatles
Elvis
Michael Jackson
Elton John
Led Zeppelin

Those are 5/6 of the best selling artists of all time. They were the most popular of the 20th century. Madonna is actually #5, but forced to pick I don't think she holds up as well.

I would agree with this. If that wasn't the case then music of old wouldn't be so popular now.

Are you saying that the older music isn't popular today?

Then you must love rereading your own posts. The music of the 70s isn't my generation but I still love most of it. Also listen to a lot of Jazz and Bossa Nova from the 50s and 60s and Big Band music from the 1940s. Now, what were you saying, Zoomer?

I’m saying that the listening habits of people at this point in time aren’t different from any other point in recent history. Young people mostly listen to new music and old people mostly listen to old music.

There are certainly a lot of young people who listen to older music, but the newer music is still far more popular.

In every generation, the young people listen to new music with a few exceptions that are considered classics, and the old people listen to music from their younger years while insisting the current generation of music is awful.

Sure some young people listen to Michael Jackson today, but there were plenty of young people in the 90s who listened to The Doors, Beatles, Who, etc.

This generation of music is not special. Young people like it. Old people hate it. Been the pattern since the 40s

I have no clue how old you are but it doesn’t really matter what you like because it’s not representative of your generation as a whole. I haven’t even mentioned the fact that i don’t really like today’s music and that Dire Straits is my #1 artist on spotify. You know why? Because it doesn’t matter. We’re talking about populations as a whole, not one person. Neither you nor I are special.

I recommend you do some research on the history of pop culture.

Spoiler: Old people hate it

“That Elvis guy is no good with his electric guitar and pelvic twists. I remember when we had real music like Sinatra”

“Those Beatles are everything wrong with the world today. Long hair and screaming in their music. Whatever happened to Tony Bennett?”

“This Led Zeppelin band is corrupting our children. All their songs are about sex. Elvis Presley was real rock and roll.”

“Nirvana is not good for our society. All of their songs are so sad and angry. I remember when the Beatles were around and music was a lot less depressing.”

“I hate that Kanye West. He doesn’t make real music and has to use computers. Our society has really gone down the drain. Whatever happened to Led Zeppelin?

So once again, your generation isn’t special. You’re just another step in an endless cycle.

Yes the generation before and the one before will say that era of music was better. That is just opinion but however the younger generations consuming older music has never been stronger than it is today. Older music sometimes will find ways to reinvent itself as new music to the ears of younger listeners who never heard of them. I seen them say countless times that it is different and unique. I heard some say that music was superior than what they have been listening to and were lucky to be alive in that time period.

As the younger generations get older, they will keep consuming older music while slowly stop listening to newer music because it never held any substance to the soul.

I recommend you give up the generalities and stereotypes. By your own stereotypes, this shitty music from the last couple of decades is on it's way to being forgotten.

If you can't tell that music in the 70s,80s, and first half of the 90s was far superior to what has been coming out the last 25 years or so, I'm not going to be able to say anything that opens your eyes to reality.

There will be a day where the old people of the world despise whatever is out and miss the days of Kanye West, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.

I literally said that I do prefer older music. Maybe you should call your grandson and get him to turn up the font size for you.

If you can’t let go of your main character complex and see that this is a pattern that has been going on for a long time, I can’t help you.

It’s fine if you don’t like today’s music. It’s normal. But to believe that people are just gonna someday reject this period of music and go back to listening to 70’s style rock n roll is is probably the dumbest thing i’ve heard on this board.
