Ok haha, this is obviously not an objective answer. Agree to disagree

Chevelle is a great band but they don't have the rabid fans like other bands.

Now take some bands like System of a Down or Korn. Their fans are so crazy they will start fighting in a thread about Chevelle.

Much can weigh into that, its very possible system paid Korn a lot of money to do those shows and a percentage of the gate with lots of other factors of the business being negotiated including top billing.

I'm not a fan of either band, but I do think korn's 1st album was solid.

We can agree on that.

Pretty much ensures they will not be the most popular.

I enjoy a lot of their stuff.

They’re too old to be current, too new to be nostalgic about.

They got a decent amount of respect in their time, but the general consensus was that they were bargain basement Tool. They’re a good band, but it’s not the most fun music. I saw them in New Orleans a few weeks back. They’re really competent, but it’s just not that fun.

I know for sure that SOAD has a a global fanbase. People know them all around the world. I don't know if the same can be said for korn.

Dude, Korn had an apparel deal with Adidas after putting the brand back on the map. System was big for one album cycle, period. Some revisionist history being spun, here.

On Spotify, today:

SOAD has ~13 mil monthly listeners making them #391 in the world

Korn has ~8 mil monthly listeners

Mostly a fan of their older stuff, saw them at Groovin on the Grounds??? I think way back when. Kind of lump them in with other bands of a fairly limited loyal following like Nonpoint, Sevendust, etc. that I like about the same.

Edit: confirmed it was Groovin 2007.

But is Tool fun? Maynard is the gotdamn antithesis of fun.

This is true. I actually enjoy Chevelle more than Tool; their songs are concise and tighter, in my view.

Tool is definitely not fun either

Grunge and post grunge just aren’t the most generally “fun” genres of rock music out there.

Agreed. While Tool is far more technical and intricate, Chevelle knows how to get to the f$&king point. “Shameful Metaphors” is such a well-put-together track.

Tool was better before they got too big and started making 20-minute songs of fuzz and noise.

Chevelle is def not grunge and what exactly is the genre of "post grunge"?

The music that came after grunge that wasn’t pop punk, nu metal, garage rock, or mumford & sons sounding junk. Seether, POD, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, Nickelback, Three Doors Down, Audioslave, Shinedown, etc are all kinda lumped into this broad category for me. Some call it Butt Rock.

I don't know about that, man. I lived through the high-point of Korn's run, and I don't think System approached that. Korn has sold a good deal more albums than System and were to nu-metal what Nirvana was to grunge.

Respectfully, I don't think System was nearly as big as Korn
