He’s just talking out his arse
Is Gayle a gold-digger? She married a 79 year old billionaire. But it seems like everyone was on the same page.

Was this not a story? It was a huge story here, but generally everyone figures of his kids and grandkids actually had something like a relationship with their father they’d have gotten part of the team at least

There are a large number who have a better grasp on the current NBA landscape. Simmons knows a lot about league history. He knows far less than most national writers about current NBA. His takes also often come from a fanboy perspective so it’s hard to ever take them seriously

This hits the nail on the head describing Simmons. His whole shtick is that because he went to a bunch of games growing up, that makes him an expert.

Simmons reminds me of Charles Barkley. Barkley got popular because people were entertained by the stupid shite he said. At some point Barkley started confusing this with people actually thinking he knew what he was talking about.

Simmons became popular because he wrote from the POV of a fan, and made a lot of pop culture references. At some point he confused this with thinking people actually thought he was smart.

To the person talking about the connections Simmons has, that’s the crazy thing about him. He has managed to surround himself with incredibly smart people consistently. The thing is, those smart people always make him look stupid on every topic.

The main thing to me about the Gayle stuff is that he keeps implying this woman he knows nothing about is dumb and doesn’t know what she’s doing. He must not read the stuff she says, because she is clearly smart and understands what she wants going forward.

Bill’s entire agenda is getting this team to Seattle. That’s it.

Yeah, he spent a lot of time publicly shitting on Doc. The second Doc responded to defend himself, Simmons whined, flipped the frick out, and basically started a war with the guy and eventually his family I think.

Simmons recently had I think the CEO or something of Twitter on his podcast, and spent most of the interview telling this extremely wealthy human being that if he didn’t change Twitter to what Bill thought it should be, then Twitter will be down the toilet in 18 months.

This was all because Bill thinks no one should be able to call him out on anything he says. The Twitter dude was basically like, “you are completely missing the point of what Twitter is about”.

I agree with this, but find it incredibly funny because these guys are way more in Bill’s wheelhouse than any of the other actual smart people you are naming.

Dude Russillo, another smart guy who knows his stuff, openly laughs at and mocks Simmons. He legitimately can’t help himself but laugh at the stupid shite Simmons says.

Russillo literally used to call Bill to be on his show to give NBA insight.

Y’all have to understand Bill says a ton of shite in jest. He moonlighted as a comedy writer, for Christ sake.

The same guy who invented the 30 for 30 series, wrote a best seller in Basketball (the definitive book of the last 10 years) & baseball is clueless?

That doesn’t pass the smell test because some Fans are upset the “queen of New Orleans” was “insulted”.

for a man that made so many good business decisions, writing Rita out of the will was not one of them. Such a shortsighted decision, especially AFTER you had purchased a second franchise and had no true heir to the teams, or at worst, someone you had groomed to be in a hands-on ownership position once you've passed on.

Such bad agenda driven posting here.

The lengths you’ve gone to defend Bill Simmons is a bit creepy at this point.

Russillo also speaks glowingly of guys like Cowherd and Stephen A. Smith. He doesn’t think those guys actually say smart things. Simmons is willing to throw out wild rumors, and theories, and hypotheticals. That’s what he does, which makes him entertaining. Being entertaining is not the same as being smart.

Again, his book was about the history of the league. Having a good memory, and researching players stats and team records, doesn’t make you an expert. Simmons can probably talk with a lot of insight about every player on every title team from the 70’s. Zach Lowe probably can’t. I know who I’m picking when it comes to which guy actually knows the game better.

I’ve been following the guy since before the Pels or Gayle Benson where around. Hell, I’m not even a Pels fan. For someone defending him as much as you are, you don’t even really seem to understand who Bill is, are what his gimmick is.

Or the opposite...I’d say all but 2-3 posters in this thread listen to him or understand him...I’ve been reading Simmons for 15 years. I understand when he’s joking, bullshitting, or being serious.
Let’s put aside the He-Was-Right-About-Durant-When-Everyone-Said-Oden take.

Dude correctly called Tatum being better than Fultz.
Dude correctly predicted The Celtics would enter the Kyrie sweepstakes and had the best package for him.
Correctly said last years Raps weren’t shite, despite them winning 59 games last year

For starters, of course, one can keep going back and it sounds like common sense, because when he has a serious take it becomes the narrative.

I think most of you don’t understand tone, at all, frankly. You can hear it in the guys voice.

But hey the only guy to take ESPN on and can chalk up a W...not even Dan Patrick can say that, but he’s an idiot and all of you are right.

This shite amazes me.

It’s posts like this that make me sympathize with Crewz...yeah this fanbase is pretty clueless. I’ll defend a point when no can counter with anything substantial other than “he’s dumb lol” while I put facts out there.

It’s more about knowing I’m right than defending Bill.

If someone said the same about KOC, Lowe, MacMullen, Nate Duncan or Andrew Sharp Id say the same.

Not just him; it seems like half of all the sports pundits, bloggers, and fans with a keyboard keep pushing this fabricated "story". It's as if they think that if they keep spreading this big lie, and wishing and hoping, it will magically come true!

I know that there's a LOT of b-ball fans nationwide that have the misguided notion that the then-Hornets franchise is responsible for the Sonics moving to Oklahoma City. They think the Hornets should have stayed in OKC, thus helping to keep the Sonics in Seattle.

Never mind that Seattle wouldn't replace an arena built for the 1962 World's Fair.

I'm sure they see the possibility of the Pels franchise moving to Seattle would be some kind of cosmic karma or payback...

I agree with this. As far as I’m concerned it’s this fanbases duty to prove to the NBA this region deserves a team, not the other way around.

frick that clown. Had the three R’s had been given control of the teams the Pelicans would already be in Seattle and the Saints wouldn’t be too far behind in San Antonio. Bill Simmons can eat a bag of Magic dicks!

Even if she was a gold-digger, how does this make her a worse owner?

If anything it shows she's cunning and has a lot of the attributes to make her a great candidate for the job

I mean, not like Tatum was picked 10th. Also, Simmons is a huge Celtics fan as I’m sure you’re aware.

The Celtics were (and still are in some capacity) linked to every big name player. At the time of the Kyrie trade, Boston had enough picks and trade filler to get just about anyone in the league.

quote:

Correctly said last years Raps weren’t shite, despite them winning 59 games last year

Celtics guy talks shite about only other non-Lebron contender in the East. Color me shocked. Also, only people in Toronto actually thought they would beat Lebron.

Simmons also said this about the Pels drafting Austin Rivers “New Orleans grabs Austin Rivers at no. 10; Stern decides against overruling it. Nice pick. (I’m in the “Rivers will be good” camp — he’s too confident to be a bust.) You have to like the Gordon/Rivers/Brow foundation, right?”

And when said Van Gundy of Austin Rivers: “I love his demeanor. People say it’s cocky, [but] if you’re not strong-willed and [you don’t] believe in yourself in this league, they will eat your lunch.” Simmons: “Totally agree. I’d rather have a 20-year-old Rivers than a 22-year-old Lillard.”

Look, Simmons is a great writer who happens to be a super fan of a top 2 market of all sports since 2001 (Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox). He’s a smart guy who knows the game, sure. But you’re acting like he’s a Jerry West basketball mind. He’d be in a front office if he was as smart as you really think is.
